Default incons meth methanol alky tests

I titled it as such so it would come up in searches

Here are my results.....all stuff done at 16.5-17.5 psi

My intercoolers are maxed.....starting line IAT 90 deg.....finish IAT 189
No intercoolers..start 90 finish 240

I have never measured AFTER the meth to see how much it helps. Today i did a few pulls on the highway. I used a Fluke thermometer/meter with the sensor in the throat of the intake where the pcv nipple is...it was slid in enuff to be right in the airstream and the meter on my windshield so i could see it. I watched IAT on my hptuners...the factory sensor is in the buttpipe. The factory sensor/fluke measurements were within 3-5 degrees of each other driving around today (no intercoolers). Got on the highway...IAT started at 95...rising to 183. Temp measurement after methanol was 82-83 degrees on both pulls. Thats a 100 degree drop!!! I was quite shocked. This is Meth at 75 psi...m10 and m15 nozzle. Soon I will try meth/water 50/50 and after that more pressure with my shurflow pump. Oh, the intercoolers weigh about 10# each...replaced with a little bypass pipe so i'd say removing them nets you an 18# weight loss

That's some cool test results. How did you determine your nozzle sizes, did you use the above temps and calculate the heat(BTUs) that needed to be removed? If so I'd like to verify some numbers with you if possible. And also are you using a programmable controller or just a regular hobbs switch? Your results will probably open some eyes on methanol injection. It's definitely worth trouble(watching tank levels) in my book.

Great test and taking the time to test like this will pay off. Years ago I had alky on my Buick and it worked great but I never had good results with water. I had the best luck with straight meth.

Good luck.

nozzles are called m10...10gallons per hour....m15 etc...mine dony flow that much at only 75psi as they are rated at 100psi. I use the SMC controller box but it set to full speed and come on at 6 psi. I could do the same thing with the DJ WB commander or even my e-boost2. I will do more soon...maybe tomorrow Oh...i got the nozzle sizes from the buick crowd...over 600hp and they use 2 nozzles

Great info, now if I can just get my meth kit to play nice with my car Damn leaky check valve.

Just thinking of ripping off this kit and going with a devils own LS1 kit with 2 bar map controller.

Yeah I have a brass type check valve and that lil sucker leaks, I took the check valve off and put a length of hose on it and filled the hose up with water and sure enough it would start a very slow drip at the other end of the check valve....with no pressure on the hose at all....39 bucks later I have a new upgraded check valve. Just have to get off my lazy butt and put it on

Well you proved chemical intercooling is exteremly effective! Say what did you use for the bypass pipe? That'd be a good place to mount blowoff valves

Tiago, i am using the smc pump...it is like a regular efi fuel pump i think.

Dave, just a piece of pipe that was flared with the ridge thingies on the ends so the hoses dont slip off. We have an exhaust shop here who does all that kind of stuff. A nice intercooler would be ideal but the incons are out of flow so maybe i'll pick up just a bit of flow without the intercoolers and i always use meth anyway so its a win/win plus 18# off the nose....not much but mine is now around 3900 raceweight

Depends on the weather, last time I went to steel I ran .2 and 2mph better in the 1/8 then where I ran last weekend in similar weather, I doubt it will run 5.80s at Steele though lol. 411 is one of the slowest tracks around, about the same as Bristol, not that it doesnt hook but the elevation is up there..

If its decent weather I would say mid .50s if it hooks.
