Default Boost Ref. cutout

someone posted this thing in the sequentail turbo thread.... looks like it would work really nice for us guys that dont want to run really loud cat backs. Kinda pricey tho.... anybody have one of these on a supercharged car? or even a turbo car for that matter.

no but definitely considering it... I guess you would run it to an open pipe, or maybe a straight-through muffler? I'm betting it gets pretty loud when that valve opens. k Also wish they made one in stainless.

cablebandet is running a couple of those (don't know if they are that brand) on his Incon twin turbo kit. Last thing I saw him post about the boost referance cut-outs was that they were great, and he loved 'em!!

If you don't have a boosted car you could also look into the electric cut-outs sold by QTP------------------------------>.

They are good units (and probably a little cheaper) and you can open and close them as you please. That's the best option for N/A cars.

Here ya go

Or you could buy a regular electric cutout and instead of using the toggle switch, you'd use a hobbs switch.

Yeah why not make your own with a standard ecutout and a hobbs....they work for fuel pumps, why not a cutout?

Just make sure if you have it hooked up to the switch still, you have the switch in the "on" position. I guess the switch could be the manual override, could be convenient.

Don't those electirc coutouts have reliability problems, or am I thinking of something else?

I believe the old style did have issues, but now the bugs are worked out, well at least I haven't heard any complaints lately. I don't use one yet, so I can't speak from direct experience. One of the street crew here runs one on his WRX and has been for little over a year now without any reliability issues.

You could get an old cruise control vacuum biscuit to
pull closed, a spring to pull open, substitute a lever arm
for the gear motor and have a cutout that opens when
vacuum goes to zero (or below).

I have the cutouts and love them. I JUST took a guy for a ride in my car and it scared the **** out of him when they opened cause he was use to it sounding stock and they are right behind the front tires. I have one on each "leg" of my y-pipe. They open for me around 6psi i'd say. They are not cheap but much better quality than the 2 different brand e-cutouts i had. Here is a vid uf me doing a burnout.....even when they open, they are not as loud as an exhaust with a loudmouth (i had one)
My car is the white one....you can see the cutouts blow the smoke

i think one is just what i need, i have a D1SC and was thinking about a 4 inch mufflex but was concerned about fitment.
I did some searches on elec. cutouts and seems only the expensive ones are really reliable, then you need switchs or a hobbs to run it.
I like the idea of this. Think ill stick it where the catback meets the y pipe, run a vacum line to it and forget its there. If it opens fully at around 6 psi then itll be nice a quiet till i really get after it.
