updated....drove her home and temps got to 235.This was with the air dam on underneath, but no lower air box piece.I picked up 3* of knock as well,im thinking that was from the Spec 5 clutch squealing though.Anyways,i ordered the 12" puller so hopefully thatll help but i dunno......

Adding another fan, that's only 3-4" away from the fans on the ft of the core, will only create alot of turbulence.

Most pusher fans have a lower CFM of air movement, than do the suction application. Having the fans already, I'd look at a way to put them on the back side of the core.
A turbo shield is only going to protect the adjoining components, not cool the water.
If there's a weather seal on the rear of the hood/cowl, I'd take it off. This will allow more hot air to escape.[Old turbo Buick trik]

If the engine is overheating at idle, and in conditions other than in boost, there's likely some other factor[s] that need attention.
1. Exhaust system back PSI.
2. Engine tuning.
3. Trans cooler in rad tank??

Ive got a WS9 hood so there are heat extractors to help vent the heat, its definitely getting hot just idling.I dont think itd be backpressure because im not even in boost so i think its almost impossible for backpressure to be that big of a factor. All i have is a base tune in it so i need to get a full tune and adjust the fans coming on but i dunno how much that would help. And i have a 6 speed so i dont have a cooler. Is there anything mechanical that could/would cause this overheating issue?

said it once before and i'll say it again, have BOTH FANS COME ON HIGH at 168 degrees. If not the car will never cool, especially with pushers. My fans are on all the time once the car hits 168 and don't turn off until I turn off the car Summer time coolant temps sit at about 195-200. They might go up to 205 in traffic, any higher than that i'll kick on the heater to stabilize it again Just something that i've learn to live with for 4 plus years of running pushers.

Do you still have a/c? If so you might have to lose it. I know that when I was running a/c with my pushers I had cooling problems in traffic in the summer time, the a/c condensor was a big restriction to the pushers and radiator. Once I ditched my A/C that lil problem went away.

If your cooling problem is this bad, you might have to go to a relocated radiator with a large puller fan(s). I know i'll be doing that soon so I don't have to use the heater from time to time in the summer.

i do have a/c but i havent used it.ill have to make due until i get over to Norris to tune, plus i think the 12" puller will help, and maybe the turbo blanket a tad. What had me concerned was Dons comment about it being a motor related problem or a cooling system problem and i was curious how it could be a motor related issue.

blownhead gasket?? That might cause a cooling issue or two Hope and doubt that it would be that.

I'd get a turbo blanket of some sort. I run a turbonetics heat shield on my exhaust housing because it sits close to the radiator. I will be getting a blanket one day when I'm rich

Are your pipes wrapped with thermal wrap? That should help keep the under hood temps down a lil...might help some too. I'm running wrap on every hot side pipe past from the crossover to the DP back.

Back in the early days of FI for the LS1 Fbody, some of the powerdyne guys were running crazy fan set ups from 2 pushers and one puller to 2 pusher and 3 pullers

I made due with the FAL 240's.
Hope you get it solved.

Why not hard wire the fans to go on high as soon as you turn it on, just to test? Then try taking the Tstat out completely, as a test.

With the rad cap off, can you see coolant circulating?

Also, retarded timing can cause overheating. May be worth a check.

it better not be a blown head gasket....ill freak since the motor has like 5 miles on it...well 10 the headers are powdercoated but no other piping is,all my cold size is aluminum so i thought that would help keep things cooler.as soon as i feel better from puking my guts up,like next week,i can try to hardwire the fans to ignition.coolant does move, and i didnt think of retarding the timing, but i have a feeling its very retarded LOL.i sent over like a books worth of info to NLP and my computer and he gave me the starter tune,so based on how the car acts im running low 11's to high 10's AFR and prolli not a lot of timing at all.

I dont think its a gasket from what its doing. One thing i have noticed is that the factory temp gauge(i have a 98 so i have the factory gauge that works, lol) isnt reading anywhere near what the aeroforce scan gauge reads.for example the scan gauge will say coolant is ~210 and the stock gauge will say its ~180-185.is that where its getting the readings that vary or is something off?

Maybe the head gaskets are on wrong. That would make the car run hot.

The way I see it if you are cruising above 50mph there is no reason to even run the fans. The car should be running cool. I can see low MPH getting hot, which will need the fans running.

TURN the fans on like Frce said!

I'm sure I've made way more power than you and my car was always like 175F driving around.

Never thought about that until you said it but i have seen it happen a few times on some of my friend's 302's. Definitely something worth checking into.
