...if it makes you feel any better I'm dealing with the same sort of problem. I'm in the process of breaking in my new motor, clutch, and rear end on my *banned name* front mount turbo, using a big Griffin IC. The car is running hotter than it used to, and when I get stuck in traffic the temps start rising... and rising...

So today it went in for a visit at the shop and we made sure the thermo was working and switched to low% dexcool/water wetter coolant. Things are a little better, but it's obvious that when you're not moving, or stuck in traffic, there's just insufficient airflow from the two pushers that are trying to blast air through the AC condenser.

I think it's also possible that the pusher's flow may be sufficient to move the air over the radiator, but the warmed air just starts piling up underhood. I'm gonna have the aftermarket ram air hood opened up in a couple of places (including the nostrils) to give the engine compartment a better outlet for the heat.

Also going to try to add another fan.

On the positive side, the intake is WAY cooler... so the FMIC is working out well.

yeah we let it idle yesterday and i noticed something interesting.NEITHER of the fans are on until ~185* then both kick on high, thats definitely making the temps rise faster.Im thinking the 2100 cfm puller fan i ordered should also help out quite a bit.Im thinking about having that fan run all the time and then when it gets to 185 then the dual pushers will kick on.I should get the fan this week so well see how that works out.

If you had the fans come on sooner it makes a big difference. I'll try to run stock fans with my new setup so I can show you that you are skipping a step.

Do you think the idea i have about running the 2100 cfm puller from ignition and then the dual pushers kick on at whatever temp would work?

Well, having the fans come on sooner won't help us with the static cooling issue; IMO we still need to have the ability to cool the motor to less than 200 when we're sitting still in traffic on a 95 degree sunny day. With the AC on, all day long if we have to. Anything less misses the bar for those of us that have kept the AC with their turbo build.

that is so true if you cant drive it on hot days in traffic what was the point of keeping the AC

168 degs. Do it.

You running 3 fans will have a big draw on the charging system...hope its up to the task. Hot under hood temps, large draw on the charging system cuz 3 fans are blowing away like mad=dead battery/alternator.

Like PSJ said always do your best to keep the stock fans. If not you will have cooling problems of some sort down the road. Some days I have to kick the heater on if the temps start going over 205-210, but that'll stabilize it and start bringing the temps back down.

Or do the radiator relocation, and run a pair of large puller fans rated at 2700cfm or higher...the bigger the better.

I'll be doing this soon, with the turbo swap the car does run hotter than it did with the procharger.

Once the car starts geting too hot, its awful hard for it to cool down with the pushers when its just sitting there idling, get it moving and it'll cool right down.

With out the A/C condensor in the way I can let the car idle pretty much for as long as I like without the temps going past 195.

One problem i see is the 2100 cfm fan.... its not enough fan.....
The reason the stocker does so well is because its a 3400cfm fan.
My new SPAL fan is louder then my Proseries fuel pump.
I had problems with my old SC kit over heating..... fans wired backwards..... it was still warm even after i fixed it until i pulled the A/C condesner.
Another thing was my old FMIC. Even at night my temps were hotter.... i cut ou tthe front plate and my temps dropped 20 degree's and that was on my stock gauges.. (98) also. with the cover back on it would rise back to 205.
Stock thermo and the single 16" fan from ATI.

Just trying to help.

Kyle

That wont be the only fan.Itll be the 2100cfm puller and then the dual 12" FAL pushers that are like 1500-200cfms i believe so thats more cfms than stock.i have also already cut out the front license plate as well.I have a 98 so the stock temp gauge should work....but the thing is why does the scan gauge that shows it to the degree vary so much from the stock gauge.the 2 are like 30* off.
