I had a switch i placed under the steering wheel so, I could turn it on and off But, it would just die as in the motor would just die. When I spoke to spal, they explained this really isnt made for the street and its "life time" is really meant for track use.

because the fan is so string u can hear it. So i would notice when i didnt hear i. I would turn on the car and it was dead. The ati fan's wires bad burnt nasty. We're talking they looked like string cheese. Then I went to spal. Now i just run an after market 16in fan from auto zone. Been good for 2 months. But i cant even use a.c. at night.

Since I flushed the radiator this weekend I can actually use the ac for like 20 minutes and then shut off the a.c. and manullay turn on my fan and make sure atleast i maintain the needle in the middle of the gauge.

I meant was it hot outside? How long was the fan on for before it died?

Since the installation of the 9 inch Spal 30100452, I have logged over 200 miles in temperatures over 90 degrees in stop and go traffic (Without the A/C on). I can tell you the 9 incher works. On my temp dummy gauge the needle goes past 210 without the 9 incher running, however as soon as you turn on the 9 incher the temperature will come down to normal.

Other relevant info:

I am running the stock 16 inch ATI fan, with NO SLP switch.

I have the 9 inch Spal fan connected/wired through a Spal FRH harness (http://www.spal-usa.com/fans/automat...85FH-195FH.pdf) with a manual switch.

Next: Upgrade alternator to 140 amp. Then test out the Spal 12 inch pusher on the A/C condenser, with the A/C on full blast.

After reading this post, I have gotten my Spal 30100452 and will install it keeping my stk ATI fan with it. Hopefully I can use my A/C again, plus I still have the stk rad. Thanks for the info.

This High Performance 9 incher DID NOT not clear the SDCE, due to thickness. http://www.spal-usa.com/fans/automat.../2061-2053.pdf

This low profile 9 incher DID clear the SDCE. http://www.spal-usa.com/fans/automat.../0452-0454.pdf

Do not order the wrong one like I did. On the other hand if you are not running the SDCE tensioner the High Performance should fit.

The bottom line is to measure, measure, and then measure some more. The schematics that Spal provides gives you all the dimensions for you to check.

Do not forget to order this FRH also. If not you will burn wires and fans like I did. Its also cost effective. http://www.spal-usa.com/fans/automat...85FH-195FH.pdf

Thanks Ed. The last picture is the Spal high performance fan, http://www.spal-usa.com/fans/automat.../2061-2053.pdf . As you can see the fan is pretty thick and does not fit with the SDCE. Do not get this fan!!!!!!

I agree...in stop and go traffic or idling with the AC my car will still sometimes get to 210. Turn off the AC and the temps come back down.

My next step is same as yours...install a puller fan on the AC condensor. It's the culprit that causes the overheating. All of the hot air off of it with the AC on is drawn directly thru the radiator by the puller fan (backside). A puller fan mounted on the front of the AC condensor drawing air away from the radiator and pushing out the front I think will help.

In fact an 800 cfm fan on a transmission cooler will cool so good you can completely isolate the lines from going into the radiator (which also aids in cooling because the coolant isn't heated by the hot transmission oil....A4s only)

Then I'm going to install a BCool radiator next...unless I can find an SLP radiator in stock somewhere. SLP quit making the radiators.

Is this connected to both the ATI fan and the new spal or just the spal fan?

I keep looking at the ATI fan shroud. And I swear it covers up 1/3 of the radiator.

Has anyone just drilled large holes in it??

Ed, I really think you need to not only open up the other side of the shroud, but also get a fan overthere. If you just put some holes it might help a little at 70 MPH, but it's not going to help at all in traffic, or with A/C running, and it might even cause you to overheat even sooner than you are now because the 16" might lose efficiency by pulling some air from the holes in the shroud, rather than through the radiator. IMO.

The FRH is connected to just the Spal fan. The ATI fan is ran/wired as ATI directs.
