cooling Fans for ATI procharger twin intercoolers
Hi
I want to mount a small fan on each of my ATI procharger's LS1 F-body intercoolers.
has anyone done this,
I already know that the SD-concepts.com twin intercooler fan kit is $200
I think that a little much for two small fans.
Has anyone installed there own fans?, what size are they?
Also i want to run them in series with my single 16" Spal extream cooling fan,
so that i can get my low fan speed back.
I dont like that the single Spal fan only comes on at full high speed, i would like to have it so it will run at half speed also , just like the stock two 12's fans did,
Has anyone done this,
Please let me know
thank you

FMIC isn't a good option for those of us that don't want to cut the Pontiac noses though. I've seen small fans on the twin IC's before, $200 is probably a fair price if it comes with the wiring harness. El-cheapo fans aren't as durable, something to keep in mind.

This Derale eFan at Summit might work - only 7" in diameter for $67:

Where do the twins get fed cooling air from on your car? If they have a good feed of cool air, and it has somewhere to go after it is forced to go through the IC, then you shouldn't need fans. Really, how often are you boosting for very long and not moving? A fan might actually block air, compared to an IC with nothing attached, at a higher speed.

Do you already have the thicker 4.5" twin ATI ProCharger intercoolers, or the smaller 3.5" thick ones? If you have the thinner ones, upgrading to the larger ones will make quite a difference. Bob

I used (1) of each of these SPAL fans on my twins:
32520-SUF 5.2" Pusher 3.860 1.400 250
I have them on a thermostat (see pic/details below) and a manual overide switch. The fans can be found online at discount stores for around $55/ea. plus you'll need the mounting kit and wiring harness.
Adjustable Thermostat
This mechanical thermostat sets electric cooling fan activation temperature to suit conditions from 32 degrees to 240 degrees F. It provides accurate and repeatable temperature sensing with no relay required. The kit includes wire, connectors, mounting bracket and hardware.
$20.00
As far as varying the speed of your other SPAL fan - SPAL sells the following:
SPAL Fan Controller
The SPAL Electric Fan Controller will vary the fan speed based on engine temperature. Programmable to operate at any temperature, one button programming, decreased fan noise, uses OEM or optional sensor.
$75.00
I didn't want to cut up the nose of my T/A either for FMIC so kept the twins. I think I may upgrade to the new thicker 4.5" though - cause after all 'bigger is better' right?
Bob, are there any drawbacks to using the thicker IC's such as more mods, chopping of anything, etc. to get them to fit?
BTW Bob, I saw that you have a new thicker ATI IC kit FS on eBay. Is that your usual going price for the kit? Also, that is a great price on the standard ATI IC setup!
Out with the old and in with the new!

That's what I thought - that's a pretty good price for everything that is included - especially if you were to price the items seperately from ATI - even the standard size IC kit would be way more than that...
But Bob is THE ATI MAN!

I know to buy the std IC's from ATI with the plumbing from the blower and to the TB your gonna have to fork over $1400 at least. (thats the quoted amount for an LT1 car almost a year ago)
So, thats a really good price!

Hey I have never measured the ATI ICs, but apparently ford v6 sable/taurus fans from the mid 90s are supposed to be some of the best flowing electric fans made. They run like $40 from the 'yard, a piece, and I know for a fact that a lot of offroaders use them for elec fan swaps - in pairs - for their actual engine fans. Even on big block rock crawlers. They are not really that big, but you would have to see if they would fit, since they are not entirely miniscule either. If they burn out - just another $40 from the yard.
Just an idea.
oh, in retrospect, they do draw a lot of power on startup, so you might want to see what your power availability is - I think they can pull way over 60A on startup for a pair.

If you have the ATI kit, you have to buy all that plumbing just to get the bigger intercoolers?
can you still use the old piping and hoses that came with the 3.5" intercoolers?
Hey I have never measured the ATI ICs
45, ati, charger, diffrent, fan, fans, intercooler, intercoolers, kit, ls1, mechanical, pro, procharger, prochargers, sdconcepts, size, twin
