First off I love your car. Have you considered running the meth kit with no intercooler on your vortech kit? I had heard recently that it was the way to go.

that is crazy to take off the aftercooler and solely run meth.. I believe he is running both. You can find him on ls2gto.com

no problem. keep the aftercooler. I plan on using nitrous instead of meth, that will be a few months down the road.

Thanks for the compliment. So far so good with with aftercooler and meth. What would be advantages of running without aftercooler...?

Going to drop in a custom cam here pretty soon. Hopefully I will be between 570-580.

I run a 224/230 on a 115. Its a nice cam, has nice chop and really pulls on the upper rpms. I would have rather went with something a little more mild like a 218/224 or something to get more low and midrange since my car is a street car and I primarily stay in that range.

Time for you to go with a forged motor larry
Have you taken it to the track yet?

Less flow loss. On up to 4-10psi my 3.8 made more power without its intercooler. Thats on a spearco air-air unit rated for 1150CFM.

Stick to the intercooler and the meth if you just run the meth it cancels itself out because of no intercooler

there's is a half a psi loss thru the AFTERCOOLER so by removing it you aren't going to pick up power, you will lose power cause the compressed air will be hot and less dense.

This 00Turbo T/A guy has no idea what he is talking about.

Running an alcohol system and the aftercooler would keep the iat's really cool.

it is too risky to run solely and alcohol system by itself, they have been known to fail and I know of two people that have destroyed their forged motors.

I think the difference in opinions has a little bit to do with the fact that you and I use our cars as daily drivers. My alky system like all of them, only runs under +boost and usually only in the top 1/3 or so of the rpm band. Since most of my driving takes place from about 4500 rpm and below, the aftercooler makes great sense in terms of keeping the charge cool when I am in lower rpms and only under mild boost.

I suppose if my car were just used as a dragster I could see the point of eliminating the aftercooler and minimizing volume of air to be compressed, putting no restrictions in the way, having the fewest bends etc.

I think Got Me Som is right about keeping the aftercooler for our cars. I think they would run worse, not better for daily driving.

I think how you tune for the alky has a lot to do with what happens if the alky drops out. I don't know how to tune a car but listening to my tuner ...... he says that if the alky fails with my tune, car will revert to low octane tables which will pull about 10 degrees of timing.

Vortech really seems to cater to the Ford crowd and really doesn't do much open marketing to sell their products in general.

the benefit of running alky is it allows you to run a lot more timing that's why most people use it. cooling is a by pass product of it, you'll make more power with more timing.

If your car is tuned is for more timing and you run out of alcohol or whatever, you detonate plain n simple. And that's happened.. Too much risk if you ask me, I have too much money in my setup..

Larry I'd like to know how your tuner has your car setup cause that's the first I've heard it defaulting to a low octane table. That's a good safety to have.

Caveman- Lets not even talk about who's SCARED to run his car. You haven't even sprayed it yet...You just keep polishing it in your garage.. And my car is a street/show car NOT a race car..
