Default Sts - Wrapped Exhaust -- Inside!!!!!

about 2-3 weeks ago there was a thread about wrapping your exhaust on an STS car to get more hot exhaust to the turbo, i was one of the people who did not grasp the concept that hotter exhaust would make a difference. I WAS WRONG!!! i wrapped my exhaust last night and my car is totally different now, it boosts much quicker and pulls harder, i cant wait until i get it to the track to verify what my butt tells me.

yeah I did the same. What a difference it makes! I actually bought 2 rolls and need to buy another roll to finish just have been to lazy. The reason it helps is because hot air is more dense they say.

good to know guys, i was keeping my truck running the entire time in the staging lanes for fear of losing heat in the exhaust. I t should help with cold starts also, just seems sometimes after the truck sits it takes a short trip down the road to get full advantage of the turbo.anybody else have this prob?

I heavily wrapped my cat back pipes for starters using the stuff in Jegs..i then used HVAC tape and wrapped the "wrap" to keep more heat retention but also to keep the heat wrap from ever contacting water when driving in the rain...if you have ever used this wrap and get it wet frequently it falls apart fast...you look like you have rags hanging under your car!!i've been using this set up for a couple months and its lasting pretty good...later,mike.

its the best 75.00 ive spent in along time. if it falls apart in one year it would be worth replacing every year. it makes such a difference its hard to explain you just need to get it done. only took about 1 hour to install . ill get some pictures tomorrow.

are you talking about the really shiny foil tape that you use to tape duct work insulation together? good idea!

Thanks Tim,thats the stuff...it's adhesive holds on pretty good but works best if you use hose clamps to reinforce...i spaced the clamps out every foot or so..if you keep the header wrap dry from rain and prevent it from being sand blasted, it should last a long time...aluminum tape is much cheaper to replace than the initial header wrap...give it try and post your results.thx,mike.

actually cooler air is more dense, hot air takes up more volume, so keeping the heat in the exhaust pipe will effectively take less effort from the motor to fill that pipe and it spools the turbo, you guys would be suprised to feel a front mounted turbo with wrapped headers I have a 67mm hitting full boost by 2800 and it starts to spool at 2k.
