Calling all of you HIGH HP guys
I knew that this was the place to go and talk to some HIGH hp guys... I'm completing a project and I'm down to the rear-end and transmission. The project is a 2000 c5 with a crazy stroker and one hell of a nitrous set-up. I have a 4l60e and a 3:15 gears in the rear. I don't daily drive the car, buyyt I do like to drive it. I do race 1/4 mile but I do like to raod race as well. So, I'm not wanting a 1/4 tranny. (TH350, TH400 ect.) What are you Vette guys running, who builds the trannys and rear-ends that last and how much do they cost.? Any help would be greatly appreciated......

no I dont run a 4L80 but its the only automatic overdrive transmission I would trust. Can take a beating that would cause a 4L60 to jump out of the car. I've been doing research since I've been considering switching to a 4L80 in the future.
I could have sworn I saw where someone else was offering a 4L80 kit for vettes for a LOT less than Yank.

no I wouldnt want to spend 12K for the swap but if he wants an overdrive auto thats the one thats going to take the beating. Some people have had luck with 4L60's but most havent.

He could always swap to a 6 speed setup. I just so happen to have one I'd sell HAHA. On another note you cant just put any of these tranny's in because in a C-5 its mounted in the back. You have to get all the torque tube and rear bellhousing modified to fit a C-5 and there are only a couple of companies that do it. They all want an arm and a leg to do it to. None of the options help the weak rearend problem either. Thats why Im swaping to a fabbed solid axle and powerglide.

We have a guy up here in the NW that builds 4L60Es that hold up to FI or NOS. I'm running about 14 psi (dynoing today, hope to hit 750-800 at the motor) and have been racing on this build for 1 1/2 years, tho last year was cam only. A mod on here runs one of his trannies at 17 psi in a turbo Camaro. We both run 10s (I hope to be LOW 10s come this Friday).
And he runs one of his trannies himself in a 425rwhp Camaro that he will spary 200 into on Friday. He's hoping to hit 9s! My point is, it CAN be done. PM TwoFast4Lv & see what he says. He also knows a local guy that builds ALL of our rear ends that have yet to break.

I had W2W send my TH400 out for a build. However, they have a guy there with a Vette (over 100k miles on this monster). W2W sent his tranny - 4l60e - out to a shop in Michigan, i believe? This thing is a monster, the driver was telling me he drove this car to florida in the fall and raced it, then drove back home to michigan. To this point he has had no problems with the trans. The car has had a best of 10.30 @ 130. Id give w2w a call and find out what trans shop they use for there 4l60e rebuilds. Or if someone on here knows what shop they use? I dont know if Joel's in Detroit is the correct tranny shop?
If your looking for a all day streetable transmission, I'd go with a 4l80e for strength... The 4l80e is basically a TH400 with overdrive.

I didn't think about what I was asking when I posted this thread. I called Lingenfelter yesterday, "Tim" the tech there at Lingenfelter that I have bought all of my motors and performance parts in the past for my other Vettes. told me that Rossler builds all of their trannys. I called Carl at Rossler, but to my surprise, he spoke to me like I was some young punk kid waisting his time. I didn't mention to him that I have spent more then 50k with Lingenfelter, and more then 33k on the current project I working on now. Man, customer service can kill ya.....!!!!
