Havent had to use a restricter with the sts since I tapped the oil pan.. before that I couldnt get anything to work. It seems to work great now...

However I was wondering is it possible to run a oil cooler before the turbo? After a few passes the turbo gets the oil so hot it drops down to around 30psi at idle it never use to drop below 40...

Has anyone had smoking only at startup and a restrictor fixed the problem? I have a brand new Turbonetics TC76 and we are having smoking only at startup and then none at all until the next startup? Do you guys think a restrictor might help me? What would cause smoking only @ startup? The heads were completely went through 28K miles ago so the valve seals should be good, however before the new forged short went in and the same head and cam package was being used I was having a little smoking near redline under full throttle when the car was N/A. Any ideas what could be causing the smoking at startup? Do turbo seals need a little breakin since its brand new? Thanks

consider getting a check valve. Viton Seal from McMaster car stops oil pooling over night or when car is off.

Still curious if any of you guys run BOTH a check valve and restrictor.

My 3 oil restrictor flanges just got in today and they are nice looking pieces, I would recomend them to anyone who is wanting a restrictor.

Going to go put a pair of them on my car right now. They come pre-drilled to 0.062

we tried a .080 restrictor then went to a .050 and she is still smoking like a james bond car. Cannot even really drive it on the street there is too much smoke. We are bringing the turbo to turbonetics to have it serviced. Anyone else ever tried restrictors only without any luck?

im running both. The restrictor is rather big though. I thought it was a standard function7 that came .060 but its actually bigger. smoking shouldn't be an issue though.

The subject of flanges came up the other day and I was told that you could just take a -4 male/male piece (or whatever your inlet accepts, it might be NPT) and fill the brass fitting then drill that out to whatever size you want. This saves room in a rear mount from having to mess with a big flange, then adapters, then the check valve...and so on.

take a drill set and try to fit the drill bits into the hole. The one that fits tells you how big the hole is lol. That puts it plainly. If you ordered it on ebay from that Zbar guy then its likely the standard tiny .060 hole. If you got it from the direct function7 dealer then its like mine...big. The restrictor is the hole that is inside that flange. That is what limits the oil, so yea technically the restrictor is after the check valve.

You just have to balance between too big of a hole (and smoking) and too small of a hole (running the turbo too dry). Ive been told that a good working check valve works good enough.
