I can see using copper spray on cometics, but I am not sure about those MLS graphite. When you pull the grahite gaskets off there is a little bit left on the mating surfaces, maybe that helps seal. Not sure, just throwing out some thoughts.

Sure you got that right ??

MLS are are Multi Layer Steel or Shim gaskets, pretty much same as Cometic, except sensibly priced.

well it definitely was a head gasket, i only have the passenger side off so far but the 2 and 4 have an exhaust path out the bottom of the cylinders

working on drivers side now, ups just delivered the new gaskets, will illustrate later.

will do the copper spray and 90# unless someone give me a good reason not to

I would NOT use spray. The spray could cause gasket slipage under high cylinder pressures. Also, Torque them to spec, let them sit, a couple hours, let them set, retorque, sit overnight, retorque. I retorqued mine 4 times with long periods in between. each time they would turn a little more as long as I let them sit a while. The aluminum compresses, the studs stretch, etc.

well the heads are down at 90 with the copper spray

i will probably leave the rockers and headers off until the morning so that i can retq them again at 90, gives me a reason to stop

Sick feelin' isn't it...Same exact thing with my SDE Titans...decided to go with the ARP L-19's at 85ftlbs (recommended torque to allow for expansion of aluminum LSx motor/head) with (LS2) 6.0 MLS and Yama Bond...I think the loss of coolant is still gonna be an issue as TwnTrboCE says. Just too much cylinder pressure with the LSx design. We just need more fastners per cylinder...sucks don't it...?

Copied from web site...

The most dramatic difference between the World Warhawk and factory LS1/LS7-C5R race blocks is the provision for two extra head studs per cylinder. This, of course, greatly increases the amount of available head gasket clamping force and more evenly distributes the load—providing the necessary sealing for high combustion pressure applications (superchargers, nitrous oxide, turbos).

We have pushed water since day 1 with every head/ gasket combo. Put your overflow in the back of the car.

Its just going to be a fact when ya really try and push it....... sooner or later it happens.

Always pays to have a couple of spares, especially for such a car.

I have spares of most gaskets etc...but when ya live 5000miles away, its even harder to get them urgently !

Those are leaking pretty good.I'd back the timing back alittle.Too much boost or too much timing is lifting the head.

MM,
Did you torque these down with Moly or motor oil?

Thanks,

Must be that time of year lol, I was smelling some coolent and it would spit a little out of the radiator cap on a pass evey once in a while so I figured the head gaskets were leaking a little. I could even see a little carbon on the outside by #6 so i figured it was time.. Thats a little over a 100 passes this year so I guess thats not too bad. Car still ran fine and never really used any coolant or ran hot..
