Default How to:

I have a D-1SC procharger on my 02' T/A and i want more boost! I have a bretty big cam in the engine also. Not sure of the size. (can't remember). I also have a 3.55 pulley on the head unit. I know that i am right at the max shaft rpm on the charger @ 7,000 rpm's on the motor. The car is seeing only 9 lbs. of boost. The car was built for the supercharger so everything is built right for boost. I want to get at least 15lbs. or so and i see it done all the time on a D-1SC but how can i get mine that high without buying a F-1 head unit?

Sounds like a boost leak to me. Could be at the bypass, I had one like this where mine did not close all the way and I had to go to a stronger vacuum source to get it to close all the way. Could be the tubing couplers or the plenum. Maybe your cam is bleeding alot?? Do you think you are getting slippage?

No i really dont think i am getting any slippage. The cam is a comp cam that is somewhere around .580 lift at 114 dont remember the duration. Should i be getting more boost than what i am getting?

I think you should be getting more boost if its still stock cubes. If you don't have t-bolt clamps that's a good idea. Look over the intercoolers and plenum well, for leaks??

Either the belt is slipping, the bypass valve is not functioning properly, or you have a boost leak somewhere. The blower belt has to be tight enough to strum it like a guitar string, and that is usually where the problem lies. Bob

Alright thanks for all the help. I will look for some leaks in the rubber hoses. Is there a way to check for leaks? Could someone shed some light on how the bypass valve works??

The bypass valve is operated by negative pressure in the manifold. Under part throttle it is open so the procharger spins freely without surge. When you go wide open, it brings the manifold pressure to 0psi and it shuts the valve letting the procharger build up boost inside the pipes. If its an automatic, the valve doesnt open during shifts, if its an m6 then it will open during the shifts if your not powershifting.

So in other words the valve is always open until you hit the gas and the engine has no vacume.

Correct, and we've recently had a faulty Proflow bypass valve that didn't close as far as it should. None of them seal off completely, but this one was still open by an 1/8 of an inch. We swapped it out and picked up two more pounds of boost on a V6 Mustang. Bob
