can you drive an STS car untuned?
just like the title says, i'm going to pick up my car today and i just had my sts kit installed. i need to fix the exhaust, so if i drove it like 30 miles to and from the exhaust shop and back to my house, would everything be ok? i dont mean like driving the **** out of it, i mean like keeping it under 3k and just cruisin. its gonna be like a week before i get a tune... but until then, would everything be fine?
and one more thing.... my tranny is stock with a tranny cooler, so how long is it gonna last with the sts as long as i keep my street tires? thanks for the info!

as long as you don't even remotely reach any signs of boost, you should be able to drive it a short distance, not sure if 30 miles is okay. But your tranny would be something that could say bye bye as soon as you get into some boost and start driving it like you should

i am gonna have to agree with the last guy...but again if you HAVE to.....you should not go over like 10% throttle and 2500rpm...you are gonna have to drive like a moron to avoid any sign of boost and you still might do something bad to the motor. i would say avoid it

do not do it. chances are u will see boost even if ur careful not to go in it. if you load up the car in like overdrive ur done. u wont even know it, but you will be detenating like crazy, and the start to your engine failure will have begun.
so unless you got another 3k+ laying around, do NOT mess around with this

Unless your running a HUGE turbo, chances are you will run into positive manifold pressure at anything over 10% throttle.
on my car i can afford to give it 30-40 percent without worrying about getting into boost, but thats cause I have a big *** ******* turbo

don't do it
I was in the same boat, I figured I would just drive mine with stock injectors to the dyno taking it slow. I ended up paying 90 bucks for an enclosed trailer insurance included from taylor rentals. Now that I look back at it, it was a no brainer...not worth the risk. If you know somebody with a truck definitly trailer it. Unless you can leave the charge pipe off and run stock injectors untill you get there then just put the parts on.

that is an other idea...if its an sts kit you can dissconnect one of the pipes and drive there basically without the turbo hooked up....make sure you take a pipe b4 the maf off....and right up a filter if you can....or at least something to keep the big stuff off. I know its kinda ghetto but if your not willing to pay to not drive it then thats prob you best bet.

taht would work!
just disconnect the front pipe and run the stock air cleaner setup till
yah get there. its not hard to switch back or time consuming at all.
i would go that route before taking chances
for some reason my car didnt like the sts kit at first
and it really didint want to idle correctly or run part throttle
dont take the chance on your car stalling and it dying
out on the highway
YOULL BE SCREAMIN
NO BRAKES!
