But I also understand that some people would rather just pay to have it done and thats fine too, I cant say I exactly enjoyed doing my cage but I have a TIG and can weld so I did it. Takes a lot of time and dedication to do it yourself though and a lot of people just flat out dont have the time. I made a good living building cars for 25 years so I dont see anything wrong with getting one built at all, but I would never discourage anyone from doing it themself, its a great learning experience..

I agree! I have put in every nut and bolt on my car, fabricated everything myself, never payed a dime to anyone else for any work on it. It deffinately makes these $50k 1000 hp builds cost more like $17-18k

As much as I'd love to be home fabbing my own build, it's just not possible for me. I've been in the states for a total of 6 weeks in the last 2+ years. I know I couldn't do all of my build, the cage and a few other pieces would have to be done by a pro, but I'd definitely being doing all of it that I could.

KP, that's smart thinking about removing the cage if you ever sold the car. That could possibly come back as a liability if the cage didn't hold up at the track or something. Espeicially in today's world of "everyone must sue somebody".

I understand and I dont 'down' anyone for paying someone else to build a car. There a lot of very talented people out there and they can build a very nice car, I have a lot of experience and a lot of time so its fairly easy for me. I spend a lot of hours on this car, thats why it runs well, its hard for a shop to build a car and ship it across the country and tweak it to its best over the phone. When I was building cars for a living it was all local so it was easy to run out to the track and fix things and get a good reputation. Its a heck of a lot rougher to build cars for people in different states, I think thats twice as hard as building local cars since everything has to be 100% when it leaves or you hear about it on the internet

You are darn right people can sue for anything, but I would mostly just feel bad if someone got hurt in the car. Thats why most likely it will just get parted out and the remains junked when i'm done with it.

my lt1 is making 520rwhp and i got used to driving it daily and in the rain, now that i picked up a 98 ls1 as a DD, it feels slow. Im probably going to just try and the get the lt1 to the 600-650 range and call it quits. it isnt set up for drag racing though, just a street toy. but i def understand what everyone is saying, im making peak power at 6500 and hardly ever run the thing over 5000 on the street.

my car 100% street was 600 rwhp. that was 3 years ago.

i drove my car on the street with 1000 hp, but it was a spray car at that point so on motor it was about 450.

my Vett is also just under 500 rwhp, but its on spray also.

and my old mans vett is 500 from the factory

On a turbo car, a 1000rwhp is no big deal on the street to control IF setup properly. Alot of us DIY supra guys are moving to AEM controlled boost. So Boost vs speed vs gear... makes for pretty controlable launches and once your going, pour on the power. Aftermarket traction control is something a car at this level should DEFINATELY consider.

Not many people believe the cars that are down here until they bring their "alleged" fast cars down here and get their *** whipped. And alot of people think what you do, drag racing, is pretty queer too, cars that are built for one thing, to run 1,320 feet, to me, sucks. People down here like having over 1,000 RWHP, A/C, full interior, stereo systems, quiet interiors, and they don't want to roll the car over on their roof if they take a corner too fast, like a drag car will. Plus, there are no drag strips within a reasonable drive from Miami so thats why these TRUE SUPERCARS are all over the place.

Get your car running and bring it on down, I'll set a race up for you.

Guess it was the slow scene. Were they all front wheel drive foreign cars?
