Smokey!

http://i77.imagethrust.com/images/1j...mg-0370-1.html

If it is getting to much oil and pushing it into the turbine it will smoke. Mine looked like a mosquito fogger.

ok, so smoke is the only indicator? Where will it smoke from? And also, how will i be sure what size restrictors to go with? Trial and error? Thanks!

Smoke won't be the only indicator. On mine I had some oil dribble where the turbine meets the DP.

here is a thread about oil restrictor sizes

If it does need a jet I would recommend a function7 piece from ebay. I bought one and like it pretty well.

Ive seen it the other way........ driving around with to much oil pressure sitting at the turbo is asking to blow out the seals..........

Stock oil pump... maybe not... but i know we needed it big time on my setup..... im over 100 psi of oil pressure by 4K RPM's.....

In talking to forced inductions they said there are not actual seals in a turbo, just thrust washers. There should not be anything to blow out. Correct me if I am wrong.

When I had my smoking issues I think it was a combination of too much oil flow to the turbo, and a drain that was pressurized some (due to blowby in the crankcase). Since Jon is running a scavenge pump I don't think he will have an issue with draining.

Did turbozone recommend a restrictor? You can go ahead and experiment with nitrous jets. I never had much luck with them, they leaked on me.

many people on here have used jets without a hitch.Ive got a standard jet drilled to .07" as suggested by Jer(frcefed98) and havent have a problem. He might be ok with a scavenge pump i dunno.

well got a little more done last night. We are realllllly close to being finished. Just this little projects and waiting on odd fittings and such is killing time. Anyway, last night we tested the scavenge pump, went mcgiver with it and hooked up some fittings, attached a hose to one end we assumed would be the suction side, placed that in a bottle on oil, straight down, other end we had going into another bottle, and connect power to the battery and this thing sucked oil straight up, literally and streamed it out the other side no problem! So that works well, just need to attach it now and get some 90* fittings. I cut the area out on the bumper foam where the meth pump is and mounted the foam. Then we mounted the front bumper and front wheel wells. Also got the fuel tank mounted back up that we had dropped a little to run the wiring harness down.

So all thats really left is to do the oil drain, the timing cover is off, just waiting on some bungs to weld in, should be here start of the week. Then we can get that on and run all the oil drain system, reinstall radiator and fans, up-pipe, etc. Then we jsut have to drill a hole in TB for the meth, run some vacuum lines, power up the guages and i think thats all. Can all be done in a good days work so keep posted next week!

yep, thats what we did, "priming it" was what it said in there. Its not directly from STS, but the same pump sts uses with a different logo on it i guess.

sooooo close. Got my drain fittings in, realized i needed them in a 90* so i sent them back to EPP and got the 90's. Got the timing cover and trans pan done with bungs welded in and both back on the car. Crank pully and belt back on car. Rad and fans back in, oil feed re-ran. Scavenge pump mounted. All thats left is...

Drill hole in up-pipe for IAT sensor, drill and tab into TB for meth nossel. Then hook up power to guages once we can push the car outside (cant access fuse panel, door wont open enough) then we have to run the drain lines... (needed to get a 90* fitting for off of the timing cover today) Then i believe we are done.... Sooo close, i expect it will fire this weekend! Keep posted!
