STS guys! in here please...
Okay, my sts purchase is right around the corner, so im kinda getting everything togethor and gaining knowledge. Well, ive read the FAQ's. and search's on truck manifolds, But there all for front mounted turbo's.... What are you guys using as far as manifolds. I do not want to run a longtube header. Im tryen to stay something within a OEM manifold that i will have coated.. What do i use ?

i have LT's i would def say from all the things i've heard, its better to stay with stock manifolds. if you are going to change, get something thats coated.... i.e. jet hot or ceramic. it would also be wise to wrapp the y-pipe to turbo

have fun passing Smog with that system...
Also.. if you get pulled over in CA.. and a cop is a dick and wants you to pop the hood (which they NOW have the right to do under the new law) and see's the piping and all that... say goodbye to your car when its towed... its happend to someone on this board already who listened to "Joe" at STS who tells them they are "smog legal" and they will "have the CARB EO# very soon"... they have been saying that for 3 years.

And im not one to mash around town, and give the local cops a reason to look at me (car looks stock on the outside as it is...) You would have to do more something more extreme than owning a sts kit, to get your car towed . trust me..

port the stock manifolds then wrap them with ceramic high temp baffling wrap followed by turbo wrap. Then if you want you can paint them with high temp paint to keep moisture out. Dont get them ceramic coated theyll heat and crack the coating.

if you plan on keeping power levels fairly low, you can keep your stock cats on and pass smog with little to no problem in cali. Keep your stock manifolds and y-pipe on, paint it white if you want (white reflects heat, keeps velocity up so it improoves spool time) but it's not necessary. From all the guys that I know running STS (I know 3, one has gone from LTs, to wrapped exhaust all the way back, to stock, he's running massive power and has seen by FAR best results using stock manifolds, stock y-pipe painted white). Good luck and have fun

The STS is a very good idea for CA cars. If I wasn't selling my car I would definitly build a custom rear mount with a nice 347 or 402 up front. Since the turbo is mounted post cats, it's just like a really expensive muffler, and still legal. Keep everything else CARB legal and you will have a fast, reliable smoggable car that you can drive around every day.
