Cool thing about LS1's is..

I really think I'm going to put the D1 back on the car for a while, no reason to hurt something this early in the year. It would be nice to get the car in the 8s but I really dont have the engine hardware to keep trying

But first, make sure your not detonating.
Also tq bolts to 80ftlbs with oil.

Why do you think that's happening with a safe AFR and no det? Just too much cylinder pressure at 20psi for the head studs?

Mike or anyone..... whats it run to O-Ring the heads???... the gaskets are cheap......
Damn Kev that sucks......
I'm not really seeing any detonation, looking through the last two logs the a/f never really got over 11.8 or so (both the BS3 wideband and the LC1 in the other bank), timing was as 15 degrees @ 6200, 14 degrees @ 7000.
I guess it could be detonating some but I dont see any signs anywhere, piston tops look great, that funky grey color is from the fuel I'm running (112 sunoco leaded). I'm not a huge fan of O-ringing steel gaskets, never really worked in my old nitrous BBCs.
But I have a feeling I have a lot more low - midrange cylinder pressure with the higher compression and smallish cam then a lot of guys, plus the higher IAT isnt helping. Like I said before I never really intended to put 20psi into this engine. I did it to use with a maxed out D1SC and it seems to work pretty well.
As far as those other fancy gaskets from what I have read and seen they just dont work any better then the MLS gaskets if everything is right.
I think I'll just wait until the newer blocks hit the market and run this one with the D1 until the end of the year, if its a choice between runing 9.20s-9.30s all year and running 8.99 and making a few passes I'll take the mid-low 9s.
Most people will never have these problems, I make a lot of passes and I'm pushing this thing pretty hard every time its run. I ran the car 24 times last year, when I play with stuff I can make 10-12 passes a day. Thats more then a lot of guys will run in 5 years so I its amazing that things hold up as well as they do really.
my only cice is that i was on bolts, and not studs, but that is definitely changing. not sure if thats going to be enough though. my wallet cant support my hobby
and i want to get a nice apartment and do other things in my life than cars....lol

If ya run and race the car enough your going to need to change gaskets no matter what bran ya run..................

Not like its real hard swapping head gaskets but I'm waliking the line between 'fun' race car and pain in the *** race car right now lol.Besides Kyle should get in the 8s first since he has a green car, we all know black cars are the fastest so I'll watch him try in the spring
