How exactly does a 62-1 compressor wheel have a 76mm inducer and 102mm major diameter? Please explain. Looking at the Turbonetics parts list which you can find right here: http://www.turboneticsinc.com/pa_compwheels.htm A 62-1 compressor wheel has a 2.441 inch (62 mm) inducer. The major/exducer diameter is 3 inches (76.2mm) so right off the bat I'd say you are just a wee bit off on your numbers. How do I know he has a 62-1 compressor wheel, simple, we looked it up by serial number in the Turbonetics system and pulled the build sheet. That is what was ordered and that is what was delivered. Moving on from that gross mistake lets look at the compressor chart. Here is the 62-1 compressor chart: Show me on that graph how you can achieve greater then 65 lb/min of flow on that efficiency map? Where does the island end? How bout 65 lb/min. Is more possible, probably. Would it be the best compressor for that? Not a chance. In fact at a 2.6 Pressure Ratio and 65 lb/min of flow its already pretty far off the map... Lastly just to play devils advocate lets look at the 60-1/62-1 matrix created by Turbonetics (read Dave Austin) Its attached BTW. What does that matrix say at the very end? Hmm 600 HP on a 5-7L engine should use a 62-1 full size compressor (thats correct for what was given) and a P trim turbine wheel. Not an S trim/Q trim wheel. The only change for displacement was in turbine A/R. Now thats for a SINGLE unit to make 600 HP. Notice it doesn't say crank or wheel hp. And its certainly no where near 750+. Even if 600 was wheel hp it would only be 690 Crank HP given 15% standard drivetrain loss. So I suppose I'm confused. Turbonetics built the turbo to your specs but somehow because you ordered it the inducer and major diameter grew like a chia pet along with the peak flow? As for the S/Q trim being too big, it was never stated it was too big for this motor. It was stated it was too big for his intended goal.

FYI the spec you gave of a 76mm inducer and 102mm exducer(major) diameter are for a T-76 compressor wheel. If he was using a T76 then all the numbers you mentioned fall into line. Heres the compressor map for a T76 compressor: Looking at that if that is what he actually had I could believe 750+ at 23 PSI. And thats well within the efficiency map of that compressor with an S/Q trim sure. But definitely not a 62-1 compressor.

Okay screw it. I am gonna go to the shop this weekend and fab up a quick charge pipe and put one of my TC76MPS turbo's on the car. Probably end up runnig a straight down pipe off the turbo for simplicity's sake. It is gonna run on my 8.5:1 370 cube engine with ported and polished 6.0L heads, a Speed Inc TU1 cam, and LS6 intake and TB.

It wont be for a couple weeks or so. I still have to get the rest of the car put together but I will get it done, get it on the dyno, and get the graph posted. End of story, we are gonna see what this turbo is capable of. If I dont like the results I will order a PT88.

forcedfed who the hell knows for sure what turbo's we have?? I just gave orders for my turbo guy to open up the turbo and spec the wheel he is doing it this evening. Stay tuned for the real deal.

Dr Turbo and Jz if forcedfed and I do not have the true TC76MPS how do we go about fixing this MAJOR problem? Where do we send the turbo for a correct replacement???

I've been thinking about this myself, I recently got a T76MPS, not the tc but it looks almost identical to the TC in the pictures I've seen. Guess I'll find out for sure in a few weeks once everything is installed.

I bought 2 of the TC76's. I can go out to the garage and measure the compressor wheel and finally see what they are. If they are a 62-1 or a 76. I'll be back in about 15mins

For what it's worth here is what frcdfed98 posted on the Turbonetics forum as far as information about the unit he recieved:

CUS. FORCED INDUCTIONS

PN TURBOCHARGER

DESC 60SE - SB - 621 - D - D - SS 874528803

DESC 60SE - SB - 621 - D - D - SS - TUNDO_96

C/O # 42697

S/N # T-22555

M/O # M258900

Purchased 081706

Looking at the part number area: DESC 60SE - SB - 621 - D - D - SS - TUNDO_96

Its interpeted as Description: 60 series - Standard bearing - 62-1 compressor - dynamic seal - dry bearing (meaning oil cooled only not water cooled) - S trim T4 turbine (supersedes Q trim) - tangential undivided .96 A/R

The unit you have appears to be a T76 compressor wheel. However the unit FrcdFed98 has according to the information he supplied is not. Do you have the label/box that unit came in?

Agreed. He may have actually recieved a T76 compressor wheel on his unit. But according to the info from frcfed's box he does not have the same unit. Unless they are being shipped with the completely wrong label AND serial number.
