Default Procharged A4 question

Well guys just got back into a 4th gen yesterday. Picked up a 2000 with 61,000 on the clock. Car runs very strong, and is in excellent shape. All i can say is its great to be back. Anyways, the car is a 3.23 geared A4 with magnaflow cat, slp air lid, and ls6 intake. I will have a set of long tubes on the way in the next few weeks. I have about 7k saved up besides this and im looking to go the procharger route (d1sc). I have read several good posts and will be upgrading injectors, pump etc.

My question is, I know im on borrowed time with the stock trans and will be getting a built one when the time comes. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with an a4 and a procharger. I would like to keep the stock gears for mileage purposes. I was also thinking of going with a 2400-2600 stall. I would like to keep my MPG about the same when im not in boost.

What do you guys think of this setup? and Do you think it will work with say mid 11 times and still good mpg? Will i have problems with the setup (A4, 3.23 gears, small stall, 6-8psi). I know alot depends on the tune as well, but lets jsut say i go to a top tuner in the area like Speed Inc.

I have a similar setup. My stock trans lasted 11k (6k with procharger and DRs). BUY A TRANS NOW , AND a 12 Bolt. You will need both. 3000 stall would be better.

do this, get yourself the biggest tranny cooler you can find, buy a trans go shift kit. this will tighten up the shifts big time and keep those bands from burning up. my stock tranny at 35 k miles was fine before i switched it out. change fluid often.

my car went low 11s . A4's like boost. get a bigger converter, at least a 3500. 2600 will be nothing.

Add the Yank py3400 nothing less. This converter is made for f.i. Also, as soon as i sent 500 rwhp through my stock tranny it died. Death was within days.

I was making 424/383 at 7psi and my trans went out 3 times. Could of been a bad rebuild seeing that I kept going back to the same guy (he fixed it for free after the first rebuild).

I agree with Urban on the Yank stall. Well worth the money.

I have been on the same stock rear end for 5 years now with 3.23's and north of 500+ rwhp, but its only made 6 track passes total. I drive it for the street.

Forced induction is great. Glad you're back with the F-body. Alot of great help here.

Hey thanks for the reply guys. Yeah its great to be back, and this is one of the most informative sites on the net. This and thirdgen.org are both very impressive. Yeah, i already planned on the biggest trans cooler i could find, as well as a shift kit w/ the stall. I know im on borrowed time w/ the trans anyway so im sure a stage 4 4l60 will be in the future. Guys who replied how is your mileage on the F.I when you stay out of the pedal and drive nice? Does it stay about the same, or maybe even a bit better? Im pretty sure ill be going with a 2600 or maybe 2800 stall. With the extra hp boost, and 3.23s it should be pretty tight. WOuld 17/22 mpg be out of the ???. Or will a beater dd be in my future.

I only get 200 miles on the highway. That's with 3.73s gears.

I do all city driving which gets me around 160 miles per tank. So around 12-13 mpg, but I'm on it alot. My car is a weekend warrior (if its not raining).

Check out FLP in Naperville, they're the best! My 2000 A4 has a 3.15 gear. Did you put a 3.23 in it? I love the RPM trans with vigilante 2800 stall. Drives like stock, but when I open up the 768 RWHP, oh, boy! The stock A4 with cooler will not last long with a D-1 making around 500 RWHP. I drive my toy 380 miles for FLP to work on it. 877-FLP-2WIN.

My stock tranny failed after the torque management was removed and a few nitrous passes. But the combo of a Vig 3200 and a FLP Tranny makes it not even a worry now!

The 4L60 in our '95 Formula died after it's first pass, and this car only has 5000 miles on it.

I recommend getting your transmission rebuilt by RPM Transmissions. Rodney at RPM backs up his work 110%!

This list I created may help you out.

I've heard lots of good things about RPM too, if I have a failure they will get the call. I like a tight stall too (2600), if the motor has the power it works great. I know most people like the higher stalls but they definitely do not drive like stock, you have to be willing to accept the loose feel.

Yea i know i should do the trans first, but i want the supercharger:-). I think ill get it on their first, and when the trans gos it will force me to buy a good one. Anyone think with a tight stall and really mild driving i could see stock mpg. I never supercharged, or boosted a non-factory car so i dont know. I would think the extra power it takes the motor to turn the charger would bring mpg down, but then again some people clain better mileage when out of the boost. I plan to stay pretty stock, maybe some worked 6.0 heads and a mild cam way later down then road.

im not trying to jack the thread, but i see a few of the nice combos youve dont that made 750rwhp on your dyno on 93 octane, and am assuming that was wit ha t56. i was wondering if you had done any of those heavily modded d1sc and forged packages with an auto, either a th400, 4l60 or 4l80 tranny and what kind of dyno numbers it made?

A big stall auto is always going to suffer power wise on the dyno. But remember this isn't Supra Forums.com where the sun rises and sets on your dyno numbers!

I have the same setup your asking about. Procharger p1sc-1 running 7psi. and the vigilante 2800 stall. I get anywhere from 13-18mpg depending how nice I am to the pedal =)

I have a D1SC and running 9-10 psi (check sig for other mods) and I see anywhere from 14-18 in town and 19-21 on the highway with the stock 3:23 and a fuddle 3000 stall. Just my .02

Hill_SS that looks like pretty good mileage. I was hoping to get these kind of answers and have made up my mind to go w/ the d1sc. Do you guys feel like you run out of gear in the a4. My last car had 3.42s and ran out of gear around 105mph in 3rd. How do the 3.23s and maybe bigger tire do? Do u feel like you run out of gear to fast?
