slowly but surely making some progress...

Ran at the cecil streetcar shootout this past weekend (drag radial event). 1st qualifier yesterday...shook the tires pretty good at ~1.5 seconds in the run...ran a 5.63 @ 139 (look at the shake marks on the track )

http://home.comcast.net/~tfranklin55...ual1_small.wmv

1st round today, stepped it up quite a bit and ran a new best of 5.26 @ 141 but the other car ran a 5.16 we were dead even by incremental up to the 330' mark...made for a killer heads up race

60' 1.369
330' 3.511
1/8 5.261
mph 141.86

Do you really need more turbo? I just saw a vid of a grand national going 7.9 @ 17X with a single GT47-88, 3450 race weight and stock style suspension.

How can they get so much power out of that little turbo? Why can't we?

Its all about pressure ratio. Smaller cube motors run turbos more efficiently, though they take longer to spool them.

Fireball, Great thread, Very informative, thank you for sharing.

One thing though, you say the car is missing on top, do you think it is time to go with a distributor?
When I talked to one of the super fast LSX guy's down at Memphis, about why he went from individual coils to a distributer...
(Seemed to me like going backwards)
He told me that at high RPM and High power you need it.

You are right there. FWIW.

we appear to have solved it. rich fuel mixtures coupled with overheating coils

knocked the dwell down some and leaned it out and it pulls to 8K cleanly now

it doesn't "fit" per say. its an ATI BBC drive mandrel that ATI modified their LS1 pulley to work with.

Couple updates...been having constant issues with backfires still...so per BS3's advice we switched to an BS3 24-tooth external crank wheel and a virginia speed pickup bracket

Took it to MIR Friday night for 1/8 mile Drag Radial Racing...

First test hit...crank pickup with sporadically loosing tooth reference (originally setup per BS3 directions)...no real run made

1st qualifier...we adjusted the air gap on the sensor, no better, no real run made

2nd qualifier...adjusted the position, (cam-crank advance angle) and left the gap alone...fixed the issue, on a soft tune up went 5.26 @ 139.8 to qualify #7 out of 21. This was the most stable the boost has ever been on the car...hit 30 psi and held it throughout the run...the crank trigger fixed the sporadic boost issue

***BUT***

1st round...made a timing adjustment and had a small backfire on the 1-2 shift...was really rich at that point...lost the round 5.30 @ 139

Test hit...made another timing adjustment and a VE map adjustment and it spun a bit on launch and had another small backfire in 2nd gear...this time A/F was ok...WTF.

GEt home...unloaded the car and the fugger wouldn't start...after some diagnosis, the 30Amp BS3 coil fuse fell out when I pulled the weatherpack cover...and it was blown...looks like it had been working loose for quite some time and was restricting power to the coils Hope that was the issue since it seems everything is starting to work properly

Shawn is making me buy a 4-bar map sensor now so we can start getting after it

videos of the 2nd qual and first round:

I'm 200 lbs heavier, 72 cubic inches and 8mm turbo inlet smaller than Phil's car...how can I compete with that

Here we go. My turd is still .32 slower than a certain 390ci turbo mustang so that whole cubic inch thing is out the window. We need to start hitting it harder earlier and it will come around. We need to find the absolute max RPM/boost you can leave at, then start playing with the ramp rates. I know its harder to do it with a smaller motor but its going to get done.

Houston...we got a problem...got a bad truck coil it appears...put new fuse in, blew immediately,

that BS3 fuse is for Wideband and for coils. Unplugged wideband, new fuse and it blew immediately, plug in wideband and undo both coil connectors, and new fuse is good...Phil is sending me his old set of LS7 coils to try

So I have been thinking and watching you guys go at this for a while. Flying I must say, thinfg is real nice.

It seems to me you are out manned in the outlaw radial events, why not throw a 275 on it and go be the number 1 contender? seems like it would be way more competitive for you and maybe a little more fun?

most 275 rules around here only allow a true 88 (if they allow a turbo at all), so sleeves are out...

Shawn just wants to turn up the **** more...we need a 4-bar map though
