We are going to use a copper gasket with the 6 bolt pattern. Fel Pro is making a 6 bolt MLS gasket also, if you want MLS/6 bolt combo.

I still have my old heads if you want to bolt those bad boys on with a stock gasket. Never had any problems with head gaskets (just everything else).

You mention some of the hg concerns. Are these similar concerns on regular sbc/sbf's at the same power level? In other words, if one was starting from scratch what would be the ideal way to achieve say 1500 hp?

I really liked the ls1 stuff because of how easy it was to run the factory COP stuff but we are now running the same setup (actually using an ls1 bs3 box) on a regular sbc and I'm wondering what is the best approach in your opinion to making reliable power at these levels?

We need to run some new 6 bolt stuff to be sure. At 1500hp either engine would be good, but the bolt span on the gen 1 is still a touch better. The real question is at crazy high power levels, can the LS gaskets hold as well as the gen1. The last gen1 I ran made 2170hp @7500 without hurting any parts. It had 7/16 head bolts in every hole and was 400ci. The more even spacing of the head bolts on the gen 1 is still nice, and all the other shortcomings can be cured with aftermarket parts.

This thread is talking about the new GM LSX block, it is cast iron.
No sleeves on this style block.
The head studs will be 1/2 inch on the original holes and 3/8 on the additional holes.
