Default LSX block work moving forward

We are almost ready to start honing blocks! We have the proper torque plate now and ARP is working on getting us the right studs, nuts and washers to tighten the plate down. We have filled one block and some of the rough boring process is already started. I can't wait to get one of these in the car!!

Are you using a different torque plate for different bores or using the one for all of them?? I know that it's a dumb question but I live by the rule of "there are no dumb questions if it's an honest one"... Either way, looks good and can't wait to see some numbers... You guys rock...

The plates are usually designed with the max bore condition in mind.

so the LSx block cant be honed with a conventional tq plate
for a gen 3 block, like the one most machine shops have now?
still though, forward progress

Thats a fair question. We have 4 plates with different bores on 3 of them. You need the plate bore to be close to what you are using to simulate the stress of the heads you will run when the engine is finished. We use the gasket and fasteners that will be used when the engine runs whenever possible, this brings the cylinder into the conditions it will "work" in.
All of our LSX blocks will be around 4.125 and our plate is 4.150 bore to clear the stones.

We think for the best results/power possible, it should be torque plate honed as close to the way it is used as possible. Our customers are going to stress these blocks to the limit, right Tom??

Looks nice Kurt. Are you planning on running larger diameter fasteners or what the block came machined for?

If 200mph on a radial is considered stressing the block then "YES I AM".

why are you only going to 4.125 bore when the block will go to 4.25? Just wondering.

to use all of its 2500 hp rating, the 4.25" bore is probably not advisable

Leaving some material there for strength and we dont need huge ci motors to make power.

4.250 is a marketing number. If that is ever done, it will probably be a NA engine that is problematic.
We are looking to supply durable power adder engines with 4 digit power, on a few of them the first digit will probably be a "2". This requires that the overall package be safe first, and leave some room for repairs/rebuilds in the future. Besides if you have ever seen Tom's crew at work, you would know why we build strength into every engine!

200mph on radials!! Thats what I'm talking about!! When you do it, look over into the other lane, in my dreams I'm there(slightly ahead of you)!

Three will be 4 inch, the other two are undecided, but 4 inch is likely. They will all be turbo, one for sure will have two 67mm Turbonetics unit
