Default New Best

Well got to try out the new tranny last night and it is a lot different now. My old best was a 11.20 @ 125+ and that was with a 6 speed tranny. I swapped in a Rossler 400 turbo over the winter and last night I ran a best of 10.84 @ 125.9 off the foot brake. Need to do a few more little things and the car should be ready for some transbrake launches and then maybe crank up the boost(Only saw around #7 last night). For the first time out this year I was pleased.

lol Thanks man, I had a 1.65 on that run and that was without using the transbrake. Hope for some mid 1.4 60 ft's next time out.

MPH stayed that close with at TH-400 swap from a T56? Did you do more mods other than the swap since then?

Hey guys.

I'm a little shy to go with a blower, and here's why: 545 rwhp and only 125 mph in the 1/4. Even with the T56, you went 125 mph (I assume the "+" means "and change"). I would expect that out of 460 rwhp..where did the other 85 rwhp go?

I've seen this more than a few times now, and it is really turning me off from a blower. I know that the blower system adds a little bit of weight, but is it really that big of a factor? It seems like blower cars don't back up their dyno #s with track performance..is it the peaky performance of a centrifugal system?

I'm considering buying a Vortech system @9 psi. I would expect that system on the stock motor and only an aftermarket exhaust and tuning to give me 125 mph traps in an M6 Z28. Is that reasonable to expect? Driving is not a problem.

Nice!

10.8 on a 1.65 shows some easy 10.50 potential. I'm sure your mph will go up a lot too... What size converter? Did you try different launch techniques... ie. 1400 rpm launch vs a 2500 rpm launch? Different converters launch differently.

Don't agree with the MPH estimate. After having a turbo setup that ran about 125 at 500rwhp, and a 126mph pass with N2O right around 510rwhp, I'd say your numbers are not completely accurate.

Agree his mph should be better, but his belt was slipping and he was only seeing 7psi. The 545 number was at 10psi on the dyno.

I removed about #150 from the car over the winter.

I agree the mph was low, could have something to do with low boost to no boost.

John
Thanks man. Converter is a 3400 Yank, and no I didn't get to try much that night due to a broken supercharger belt.

Don't sweat the nay-sayers, man. You can try to tell people the differences in your setup at one point to the other and sometimes people just don't pay attention. I, for one, appreciate the updates and the additional information related to mods and what they are doing for each of us.

Sometimes, unless you are complete and only post your final outcome (which, hopefully, is kick-a$$), people just think it is a brag about what you have accomplished. This game is about enthusiasm and staying motivated to continue toward a goal.

Keep on keeping on!

Hey..I'm not the man trying to keep a brother down...

LOL

I'm just trying to find out what the deal is with blown LS1s and trap speeds. Can't a brotha find that out, man?

dar..huh? I realize he's got a new tranny..but he did say 545 rwhp. I thought my post was clear...Certainly you can see that I'm just "teching in."

A local guy went 11.8@117 mph with 46X rwhp in a blown M6 LS1. Another guy only went 113 mph (but he was a poor driver). I've done searches, but haven't come up with anything substantial evidencing the base blower kit performance figures people are getting at the strip.

I think Tom's shakedown runs were good, but not where we wanted them to be. Considering his MPH was about the same as last season, and he picked up 4-tenths, he is happy. Once everything is sorted out and making full power, I really expect to see 10.4 @ 130 or better

dar... uh! He is was also only running 7 PSI that day. The difference between 7 PSI and 10 PSI is a WORLD of difference.

With 7 PSI peak, I ran 116 MPH trap.
With Headers and 10 PSI I ran 126. BIG difference.

As a comparo, I went 122.6mph with 475rwhp/505rwtq and 3520 raceweight NA.

I think that NBM's numbers are going to go up if he can get a better 60ft.

Here is my only concern. The converter he has sounds kind of tight. If it's that tight it might not 60ft in the 1.4's AND it might drop down a lot on shifts, hence driving down the MPH... just a few thoughts.

Black: I apologize for mocking you.

Yes, I saw that he is running 7 psi and desires to go to 10 psi. Again, he said he has 545 rwhp...545 rwhp and 125 mph trap speeds. Now, maybe the 545 rwhp was with a different transmission and at 10 psi. How am I supposed to know what's up without chiming in and becoming a "naysayer" in your book? I'm sure the difference between the two boost levels is noticeable..but even at 7 psi, with his setup, I would expect perhaps a little more mph. There should be a world of difference between 0 and 7 psi of boost. It feels as though you're unnecessarily giving me a hard time. Are egos here so delicate that one cannot criticize or question the performance of an inanimate object (a car)? There's a lot of physical and mental investment in these cars, I'm sure, but this is supposed to be for fun (at least it started that way).

There are stock LS1s out there running 109 mph. My '98 M6 Formula ran 108 mph stock w/30k miles. With 7 PSI at peak, you ran 116 mph. I suppose that's an ATI kit. This is the kind of thing that I've been seeing and that has spawned my questions. But hey, I'll just lay off for now and continue to lurk.
