I went to the track today and I noticed by my last run and on the drive home when I started pressing the throttle and the motor started loosing vacume approching boost the oil pressure would drop. as soon as I let off the throttle the oil pressure would come back up. its still lower than normal though. it will be around 40psi with no throttle and 20 hg of vacume, when the vacume drops to 10 or lower the oil pressure drops to about 20 when approching boost. normally im around 40-45 @ 20hg and pressure increases with rpm. I was playing around a bit today with my breathers today, am I pulling oil out of the crankcase? or did I hurt something, the car doesent seem to be running as smooth either. almost wants to stall at idle. Im going to pull plugs later. also the oil is a little bit old. probably 4000mi, and Im running meth injection.
i dont have any abnormal noises or loss of power though, I just changed my oil and Im going to cut the filter up and see if I find anything

I know with my sts turbo my oil pressure went down alittle. No biggy I just figured it was because of the oiling system on the sts.

You went to the track with damn near 700 RWHP on 4000 mile old oil? I bet your oil is diluted with the alcohol and gas.
I ASSume your oil level was OK?
I'd suspect rod bearing as mentioned.

I am going to say probably a bearing, but it could be a piston also. I had a piston issue and had very simular issues after driving it for a while.
with copper flakes in the filter, how could that be a piston? Ill find out soon enough, Im going to start pulling it today. what kind of bearings should I run and could this have been caused by poor crankcase ventilation? I was playing around with that at the track.

I'd suspect your oil was really thinned out and diluted with gas and alcohol. You can't just run oil in high HP FI cars like a stock Honda Civic. Boost pushes some fuel (and meth) past the rings.
I bet I change mine every 200 or so miles and usually before every track outing, although I barely drive my car.

Sounds like a rod bearing to me, I just went through the same thing, didnt make any noise but didnt have good pressure. When I pulled the motor the mains were shot along with the #4 and 5 rod bearings I believe.
good luck hope its somthing diiferent but it sounds like a bearing.

Your first post didn't mention anything about the copper flakes first off, and the pieces of piston circulating in the motor ate all my bearings so yeah there was copper flakes in the filter. And I use the clevite H series bearings and there is really no telling what exactly was the cause for sure, could be an oil related issue or it was just time LOL! I don't think the crank case had anything to do with it if you in the end had breathers on the motor. Good luck.Originally Posted by lmt0705
