Default Gen-TT Truck Systems

The latest member of our fleet, a GM truck to form the basis of our new Gen-TT intercooled twin turbo system

For those that want to know the specs, the car (truck?) is a 2002 Silverado 1500 series of the short wheelbase kind. With a full fibreglass back section its not as heavy as you might think either which will mean lots of tyre smoking twin turbocharged fun

The engine is a 5.3 litre version of the LS1 with that familiar looking big truck manifold and a fly by wire throttle body. There is some extreme torque management in there to protect the driveline, but still she pushed out 245rwhp on the obligatory 'before' run....now its time to get SERIOUS

We will keep you guys updated over the next couple of weeks as we get the first prototype kit out there and testing

I'm guessing it will be a smilliar design idea as the F-body? Just wondering since you are having to deal with right hand drive.

Hey Tuna. You may want to keep in mind that the left hand drive models the A/C compressor is down low on the right side.

Yes mate, the process will be very similar to the F-body and Pontiac G8 systems we already have. That way, whatever happens under the hood doesnt really bother us too much

Hey Firehawk, on the truck series we will use our GTDW2833 turbochargers which have proven to be a bulletproof and compact high performance turbocharger. Based on a T28 flange with a 0.86 rear housing/large internal wastegate design, the GTDW2833 has exception oil sealing/CHRA VSR balance, which makes it the pick for the kind of extreme duty environment that a truck could possibly give it.

Another benefit of using these turbochargers is that we have already proven their torque response on all of the LSX family from the LS1 through to the L98 and LS2. One of their major characteristics (when used in tandem) is a massive torque peak at around 3500rpm, which we consider to be a valuable asset to truck performance and getting that big body moving quickly. Here is a dyno of a pair of 2833 turbochargers on an LS2 running 9psi boost pressure

The 620 torque interests us much more than the 520rwhp as the torque numbers is the key to getting strong acceleration when you are pushing a big brick through the air

interested in this as well. and i didnt know a 02 pick up had DBW but also never seen a non-USA one. but my question is, would you be doing an upgraded turbo setup for this? reason i ask is say if one had larger cubes like a 408. all piping the same but would need larger turbos

Some progress shots from today with the truck fully stripped down for inspection and analysis. There isnt a whole lot of room on these trucks for turbochargers in the engine bay without seriously increasing the underbonnet heat loading, which in a Tow/Haul situation might not be the best solution

After assessing all of our options we have decided to place the intercooler low behind the front lip on a 45 degree angle with a specific air duct, so that it gets plenty of frontal air flow but doesnt block the trucks basic cooling system

there is room to mount the intercooler straight up and still have enough size to properly cool the charge.

The reason we are mounting the intercooler this way is to avoid customers needing to cut the front bar opening. Whats the poll from ppl here would you cut the front bar or not?

The front valence is about $70.00 U.S. Maybe include it with the kit precut. I know is just an opinion thing, but I like seeing the intercooler. I know some dont though.

Underneath this car is a stock standard 02 1500 series Silverado complete with 4L60E. The only parts that have been moved are in the engine bay, and forward of the exhaust manifolds (ie A/C system to clear RHS steering rack)

The kit will be fitted to both 1500 series and 2500 series/4WD to check for accurate fitment on all models before its signed off as production ready

We just changed the intercooler on my neighbor's Escalade from something similar to yours to a different IC mounted in front of the radiator. The nearly flat low mount did not cool worth a ****. Even if it costs a little more, or involves cutting, you should really change it. In the case of the Escalade, the change was worth over 20*F cruising and close to 50*F better at the end of a 1/4 run. This was on a Livernois kit with a single 67mm.

Some were, but they weren't the same throttle body design that the 03+ trucks have. I know the 02 Denali and Escalades have electric TBs, but I'm pretty sure silverados and sierras with a certain option like traction control had it as well.

Its hard to see in our pics, but the intercooler sits at a 15 degree inclined angle from horizontal to make sure it receives excellent frontal airflow
As seen in this shot -
