Default My Incon Install

Well, the time has finally arrived for my incon install. I have been back and forth on whether or not to install it or sell it. But, I figure what the heck, might as well put it on and have fun with it. I bought this kit off Cablebandit earlier this year, and Jerry has been truly great to work with. I chose to run my stock shortblock for now, maybe upgrading to forged engine next year. I would like to get about 550 rwhp out of this combo, and I think it is doable.

The setup will be:
-stock shortblock with katech rod bolts
-222/222 custom cam, XE-R lobes
-stock 6.0 heads with Manley dual springs
-ported LS6 intake
-incon twin turbo with SMC alky kit (alky kit came with it)

For fuel system I am still not completely sure what to do. I have a racetronix pump and 60lb injectors. I also have a 97 vette fuel rail, so I could covert to a return system using that. If anybody has some advice I am all ears.

The drivetrain will be a rebuilt T56, textralia clutch, and stock 10-bolt for now. I know the 10-bolt is in jeopardy, but I hope it will make it thru the rest of this year.

Here are a couple pics of the hot parts and turbos. I had the parts coated by FX Coatings and they did a really nice job.

I am dropping the engine out for this install, and also rebuilding the trans at the same time. So it will probably take me a week or two to get it all done. I will post up with progress and pics.

Didn't have have a oil check-valve go bad on you or something?... Causing two starved turbos?

If so, I'd just get replacements for the ones with the kit, Bowtie.

Jerry said that Josh's check valve was backwards, which is what fried the turbos.

My check valve is still assembled in the oil lines so I should not have a problem with it being in backwards.

Thanks for the offer Joshua. I can't wait to get this thing done and see what it will do

Default 7-31-07 progress

Good progress tonight. Engine is out and the trans is off. I took the trans back to my house for the rebuild, which I plan to do tomorrow night. Once the trans is done then the engine work commences.

A few pics from tonight

Ya, I know. I would like it to last long enough for me to decide if I want 3.42 gears or some different ratio. Hopefully with my street radials it will survive a few months.

yeah, way easier to do the install with the tranny and engine out of the car. My stock 10 bolt lasted on mine fine on street tires, it would just blow them away whenever the kit hit. If I raced it or got traction, then that would be another story.

Yeah, the oil check valve isn't marked clearly as to what the flow direction is... and no mention or illistration in the manual..

I remember asking Jerry what his looked like and he wasn't able to look at his car. So I did mine, and forgot all about the issue since the rest of the build took 3 weeks.

I had to replace one cartridge ($900) the other was fine upon inspection. In the end it was a $1,000 mistake.

It was terrific after all that, although I kept running out of fuel up top. I ended up daily driving it for several months before parting/selling the Firehawk.

Got about 3,000 miles of fun.

Well, have not updated this thread for a while. Unfortunately work has been killing me lately; been traveling too much. Obviously while I am gone nothing gets done on the car.

I underestimated the total amount of work I had to do, and I got slowed down by little things I forgot. But, I should be home here for a couple weeks straight now. I am finally getting some work done. I am slow and a bit of a perfectionist, but it should be worth it in the end.

My trans is rebuilt and ready, thanks to Six Speeds Inc for the help. That damn dragging clutch ended up costing me $1000 in parts for my rebuild

With a some time and a lot of adjusting I got both the incon turbo assemblies ready to go. I stripped one of the exhaust manifold studs; try to find a stud with M8-1.5 threads on one end and M8-1.00 on the other. I finally gave up and put a regular M8-1.25 stud in and used 2 jam nuts.

My engine work is nearly done, which is where I underestimated what had to be done. The stuff I did was:

katech rod bolts
222/222 cam
new GM lifters
drilled the lifter trays
ported the oil pump some more
all new gaskets
used 317 heads (had to put Manley dual springs on, new seals, lap valves, port match, etc.)
ARP head studs
exhaust manifold studs

I basically have to bolt the heads down and long block is done. Then it goes back onto the K-member and into the car.

My new clutch is due in Tuesday of next week, so I hope to have everything else done by then.

Other stuff I am doing to the car:
97 vette rail, stock 3.8 V6 fuel lines, and dual in-tank pumps if needed
New TurnOne power steering pump
New clutch master cylinder
TA rear end cover with stud kit
New LCAs, panhard bar
putting the SLP dual/dual exhaust back on with 3" cutout

So, hopefully by this time next week the car is running. I will post up some pics of progress over the next few days.

awesome man...you are gonna love that kit. Once you get all the little things tweaked, it really is maintenance free. My ofi kit makes more power but it is definitely more hassle than the incons. Once you get everything together, you will love cruising around with the a/c on and having 700rwhp+ on tap whenever you want it. OR you can get the big nutz and do 800+ Its funny, i sold that kit and havent purposely turned this ofi up over about 700rwhp yet.
