Default Building your budget stock block....

Has anyone on here done a budget built 346 for boost? About how much did you spend and where? What rods/pistons or crank?

I'm looking into a procharger setup (specifically a D1SC@8lbs) but I want my motor built before I make the purchase.....

Any and all info is appreciated.... I've done a search and I get results completely off topic...when search is working...

For a ""BUDGET"" Build.
It would consist of these following parts for me....

Diamond Pistons for a 3.905" Bore $570 w/ rings
Eagle H-Beam Rods $450
Stock crank
ARP Main studs $160
ARP Head studs 12 point $215
GM 6.0L MLS Gaskets $65
new rod bearings $65
new main bearings $95
New Ported oil pump $150 or so
Timing chain Roll master $135
6.0L heads $350-$450 stock + $255 for Patriot gold dual valve springs
Pushrods $115
Used cam $325 from for sale section all the time
Machining of the block, line hone with TQ Plate and engine assembly anywhere from $800-$1000.

And that should hold quite a bit.

That's just about 5k. Not to bad for a bottom end that'll hold 1000fwhp?

How much more expensive do you think it'd be to turn that into a 408 or 402?

Well I believe you have to buy another block at that point, like a lq4 or lq9, which is the truck six liter block (iron)....

Then a different crank, which is goign to be expensive, i belive around 1200 bucks if not more!

Does the machine work really vary that much depending where your at? I'd like to get a ballpark on what most people paid for what they had done.

I honestly dont know, because I have never quoted it ANYWHERE else..

I just know, I had a SBC 350 bored .030, decked, honed etc.etc and bearings installed for 300 bucks! And they are VERY well known around here!

Thats pretty much exactly what im going to run, except i have a new cam, and got the SLP double roller chain, and mine is based on the 6.0 iron block so its a 370. Otherwise, thats exactly what i have. Speed inc has taken this combo into the high 8s and 995 RWHP. Should be able to hold anything my lil ol D1 can push its way.

Our $5700.00 price is a good deal, where we bring the car in, pull the engine and rebuild it, install it and tune it.

No you do not have to buy another block..... you can use your block, you just have to know your going with a 4" crank from the start to get the pistons the correct length and the pistons to work right.
There might be a few spots for clearancing..... that would egaul a 382ci motor.
If you went with an Iron LQ9 block you would have to add that price into the total.

An Eagle 4" crank is around $850....... i beleive speed Inc has it for that much right now...

That total was machine work wich usually runs $250-400 for it, and then what ever your builder charges for assembly...Mine charges around $800 for that.....
On my last motor it was $1000 for assembly.... so it varys by who does it and how much you trust them to pay that......

Give a few of our sponsors a call and tell them exactly what ya want and im sure they will break it down for ya.....
