Default Procharger/Turbo?

Is there much price difference between the two? I am building a FI motor over the winter and haven't decided if I want to go turbo or procharger. I was curious on the price difference, if there was much. And this will be going on a lightweight 98TA race car. Only driven at the track. Thanks

turbo is going to cost more money and require more maintence down the road, but will make more power if properly set up.

A Procharged D1-sc kit- you get everything you need to put it on, and is reliable with a 8 rib set up untill you get in higher boost.

What do you want from your car.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of the F series kits. It is race only and I want to get it dialed in and then start running some NMCA races. I want the car to be a low 9 second car or better that is fairly consistent with the least maintenance and tuning requirements as possible. I know I will always be tuning on it but you see what I am getting at.

Oh, and the motor will be an iron 408/L92/L76 setup.

I'm kind of in the same spot. The issue I see with the procharger is that you can only get an 8 rib setup. This is a severe limit in my mind. I have talked to Procharger but they won't commit to anything better.

You can run low 9s all day with a 3400lb car with a procharger and an 8 rib, with a 347 even. I know its possible because I do it a couple times a month

Actually KP, your car is what got me thinking about a Procharger. Now my car is only 2900lbs, so Im assuming that my low 9 second goal will not be overly stressful with the power adder and engine combo that I am building???

My car is 3150 or so without me in it, you are going to add about 75 lbs for the procharger stuff so if you can still be under 3000lbs you are doing good.

Any 32-3400lb low 9 second car is going to be stressful on parts, head gaskets will be an issue if you start pushing it hard. But honestly this car gets a little boring since I dont really do anything to it, just change the oil once in a while, check the air in the tires and run it.

If you are using an iron truck block you will lose one of the three holes that the procharger bracket bolts to. Nothing wrong with a turbo either, probably both will end up costing the same when its all over. I keep the procharger on the car because its been a no hassle setup, no extra underhood heat, easy to swap cams, no alternator relocation, didnt have to cut the core support to relocate the radiator plus no oiling/drainback issues.

But OTOH I dont think I can get a whole lot more out of this so if you are happy with bottom 9s/possible high 8s in a lighter car then its a great setup. If I wanted a solid 8.80 car or faster I would have to go to the turbo unless you build your own bracket setup with a cog or 10/12 rib.

If you run NMCA you will have weight penelty's anyways for the 400+ci ect.So you will probly have to weigh 3400lbs. As for pushing it,everybody does racing a series. We have ran with NMCA for years and we always blow head gaskets out.
