Default Front Mount Turbo or Procharger?

I am runnin an STS kit @ 5-6 psi and i am lookin to get rid of all that piping underneath the car and get rid of those clearence issues. Now i have seen and read about the truck manifold front mount setup and am leaning towards that, but i really like superchargers, and idk mostly i am trying to weight the pros and cons of each. Turbos dont take power to run inessence but superchargers are badass...so if anyone has a procharger or front mount chime in and lemme know how u like it. Thanks

How many people do you know that have switched from a turbo to a supercharger?

Check out all the ATI ProCharger equipped cars in my project car section. A supercharger will use more power from the engine than a turbo, but the installation is typically much easier, and they'll make plenty of power.
Check this car out. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...html?item=1109 Bob

Here are some pro's and con's I came up with when I was trying to decide.
Feel free to add to it if i'm missing anything.

To turbo or supercharge, that is the question...

Pros and Cons of both.

Supercharging:
I would probably use a Procharger.

Pros:
Reliable
Easier install and can run headers and custom exhaust.
Procharger has self contained oiling so if it blows the motor oil is safe.
Don't have to worry about catalitic converters or motor spitting guts and ruining SC.
If the blower goes the metal will settle to the bottom of the intercooler and never make it to the motor.
Don't have to buy an aftermarket K member.
Less heat in the engine bay.
Starts to build boost at 3k

Cons:
Takes up to 20% of engine output to run it.
Higher fuel consumption?
Can chew up belts or have belt slippage and loose boost.
In order to change boost you have to change pullies.
With a belt-driven centrifugal blower, you have to choose a pulley size so you won’t overboost at redline. But that means that at every rpm below that, you aren’t running as much boost as you can. The nature of centrifugal blowers is parabolic, meaning at half the redline rpm, you make less than half of the boost. So on a typical 5.0L, you might only make 3 psi of boost at 3,000 rpm, where a turbo car can easily be on the wastegate for 11 psi. That’s why I make 550 lb-ft at 3,000 rpm. Hey, if you cut my boost to 3 psi at 3,000, my torque would be down to 340—that’s 200 lb-ft less!

Turbo Charging:

Pros:
Free HP, no parasitic loss to run the system.
Silent operation until boost kicks in.
No stress on the crank by running a pulley.
Adjust boost by turning a **** on boost controller
You can have a twin turbo setup which allows the boost to come on sooner. (depends on turbo size)
Greater torque per RPM
Depending on the turbo you can have FULL boost by 2500rpm.

Cons:
If you spit a valve or piston chunk your turbo(s) are dead.
Oil maintenance is more often because of the hot turbo(s) using engine oil.
Have to wait 2 minutes before shutting a turbo vehicle off so the oil in the turbos has a chance to cool down and you don't get burnt oil buildup on bearings which causes leaks. The effect is called coking.
There is lag, the amount depends on the turbo and placement.
Have to buy an after market K member.
Lots of extra heat and potential overheating issues due to turbo(s) under the hood.
Twin turbo you will have quite a few more lines to run and more retained underhood heat due to the extra head unit.

I decided to go with a procharger through EPP.
The reliability of their kit was the main selling point, along with the support they provide.

I don't have the kit yet, i'm still saving and prepping for the added hp.

I don't ahve my supercharger yet, but I ahve a turbo on another car and it drove me wild but was fun to drive. It doesn't sound like you are trying to see maximum results so I would go procharger/EPP if I were you. Its proven, easier install and should be less maintenance depends on what boost, etc you go with. Everyone talks about belt slip, but I don't think its an issue unless you go above 12psi on the d1 kit. Good luck on decison, I know where you are at right now. I was so clsoe to going wtih an STS kit myself tahn backed out at the last second for the reason you probably are right now. I didn't want to wait and ahve all the extra grief with a turbo setup, but if you can handle all of that and want to ahve the pro's of one that ya turbo is better. If I was going all out race and money was no option than there would be no other option than a twin turbo set up for me. But I went for a proven setup with less grief, especially on the street. Good luck on the build, keep us posted!

Have you ever installed either, I have and the pain of installing a turbo is almost worth going with a procharger even for a loss of power.

Not only the pain of installing but as well as maintaining, I have talked to a couple guys who have either removed there turbo or ditched the car all together because it drove them mad. Thats not counting me either and the car came stock with the turbo, I just upgraded This was the reason why I chose supercharger. I think that it all boils down to.......... could you REALLY state that if you go with a supercharger that it would be a 'bad' decison????
