Default S80 versus S88 on 408

Just curious what kind of power differance there would be between the 2 turbos on the same 408 motor. I was set on getting an 88 but I may have a good deal on an 80 come up.

Depends on how far you really want to push your set-up...
really and S88 will run out of steam with 408ci if you really lean on it....

Ya he probably did, your right. I am just not as big of speed demons like you guys I couldn't picture myself maxing it out, well for now anyways, LOL. I am currently piecing my project together and I am going with a 408 and the t80. Mose will say its not enough, but should keep me fairly happy for a while. The guy I am buying it with said he made 800rwhp with it, probably not too efficent though. If I decide I need to upgrade in the future it will be a S88 no doubt. I am not building a race car, pretty much street only, crusier. I'll probably won't go past my lower boost setting on the controller too much. It just depends on your goals, but I think over 600rwhp is enough for a street car anyways. To help answer the poster's question so it doesn't seem like I am jaking here, I think you should state your plans/goals for the car. If I wasn't buying this kit from someone I would definetly start with the S88 if going with a 408. If I do this now I have to buy a new turbo, plus modify my kit. Don't have the money right now anyways. So if you think that you are maybe going to use the power in the future........ just get the S88 now and be done with it. I think that its capabilities would suffice for most. Just my opinion though, good luck. I will be interested with your results since we will be doing similar builds. Sounds like you are going more turbo than me though, you bastard! JK

Then the S88 for sure if not bigger.

I sold my S88 and most dont know that (they do now)
Because im going with 400+ cubes
The flow of these motors really start to effect back pressure.....
If your serious about running that quick....
Pick a turbo that can work with the cubes and flow of your motor.

I'd agree, sounds like bare minimum S88 but probably bigger. You mentioned that you had a great deal on a S80 and thought you should take it, I thought that with those intentions you weren't implying a 8 second car. S80 would have a hard time getting into the 9's with those cubes.

With the cover you presently have, the 88 is the largest you can go. The new 91 now uses a total different cover and flows Mega air compared to the older cover that was the original design.

how much larger is the new cover designs for the s91? I guess when and if I get bored, I could either sell my old turbo and go S91 or just rebuild the one I have now to a S88.

Hmmm.... but that s91 sure sounds badass... Lol! And I thought I was over dealing with this kind of stuff!

The S91 is a direct fit . Also the turbo does require machine work to use the cover. But nothing that couldn't be done in a few mins on the CNC.

Are the new covers out yet? How do you tell the difference between them (88)?
