Default Which single Turbo for 6.0L iron. S88 or smaller?

Hi.

I am planning to build a turbo LS 6.0L iron block motor and I am trying to determine whether an S88 would be just right or too big. From what I have read here, 402 strokers w/S88 turbo seem to be popular but I don't want a stoker (yet)

An S88 would probably be fine, just depends on your goals for the car.

If you want to build a 364ci or close bottom end, not a stroker, maybe somthing like a 370ci, you can get away with a t88 t4 turbo with maaaaaybe a .91 or .87 AR. You can also go with a t6 if you want a bit more flow and less backpressure. However, there are s-series turbo's i believe with t4 housings so you have a monster turbo with a t4 application. You can go with a t76 since most have made tons of power with a t76.

Or maybe their s76...

Its not because I have one of their turbo's, howeve, they have made a great performing product with those s-series turbo's and I would definitely call Forced inductions or contact Dr. Turbo here to get some answers.

Personally, I would go with a s80 or something like that, I cannot run a t76 unless its a twin setup!!!

T4 ST80 w/ a 1.1 ex housing is what I'm going to run. Should be more than enough to scoot on 20 psi.

I am going with a S488 turbo on my 408 build. From my understanding the S488 is a damn good turbo and I am going with a 1.1 A/R. You can not beat the price @ 1350.00 shipped out the door.

I wouldn't go any smaller than a S88, but that's me. I think Nasty was doing just under a 1000 on like 20-22 lb. If you're running 16-18lb should be putting down somewhere in the 700-800 range I would think. I guess it depends on what your looking for and how much room you have.

Problem with that turbo is your just buying a PT88. Same compressor wheel....old 7 blade TV series. No extended tip, no new 6 blade design.....

I would prefer to go with the 80mm ETT wheel upgrade. They will still flow 120 lbs/min and are the actual E.T.T. wheels from BW. When I max out my setup I'm going to upgrade to the 80mm wheel. There is a guy on Turbomustangs running 5.90's at 119 with a stock b/w s400 in a 3400+ lb car. Pretty damned good for a 600 dollar turbo.

He is upgrading to the 80mm wheel now so we'll see how fast he pushes his car.

We have them....if you wanting a straight off the shelf S400. They are a bit laggy, but will make about 950-980hp.

I dont know where to go.

S488 T6 Flange 1.1 A/R $1350.00 Shipped
S88 $1899.00 Plus Shipping
S91 $1999.00 Plus Shipping

To me the S488 price is right and it has been used from my understanding for quite a while so it has been proven. I just do see the need for the extra $600.00 to $700.00 when it can be used else where. I dont see any reason why I should not be able to make 1000rwhp with a 408ci motor.
