how about stock motor with the exception of a cam. stock 241 heads and ls1 intake with a turbo smaller then a 70mm. i am curious what a 67mm sts kit will do with only a cam upgrade and a tune.

The problem with running any kind of moderate boost levels on the stock motor is simply that its not reliable. For every 1 or 2 stories of cars holding that kind of boost and power over any period of time, there are dozens more with less boost, and much shorter periods of time that end up doing motor rebuilds because they fried a piston or something else went.

There will always be those who say "my car is still running strong", but the reality is each time you run any kind of decent boost levels on a stock motor, you are rolling the dice. You might make it 25,000 miles, or you might make it 2500 miles.

I'd like to turbo my car but like CALL911 said, you never know what really is safe or how long the motor will last and with my current mods who knows how long it will last. Unless you're loaded with $ , buying any FI kit isn't cheap and then if the motor goes only a couple thousand miles later, now what. Spend a few more thousand dollars that aren't even in the finances! We all want more and more power, and getting what you can out of a stock block is kind of the luck of the drawl. You may be successfull and run that setup for awhile or it could be only a few months and then BOOM! But good luck either way.

i switched to E-85, and i have to say that it really helps with the boom. when i dynoed it it was running at 14:1 afr when it should have been 8.5. the log showed no knock retard whatsoever. it's cheap insurance
