In the process of building a custom turbo set up. Doing the merge was a pain in the @ss. I was wondering if i could just cut a hole on 1 of the pipes really close to the merge it would basically be in the merge but only welded on one pipe. THanks

Pictures would help but what you are describing is do able but it is critical that the flow is a priority.

Awesome technical drawing, did you use a cad program or are you just that good?!

What is the turbo setup? Are you going to be running a small turbo with low boost? or a big turbo and big boost?

If wastegate control is important (like, you have a smallish turbo but want to keep boost down on a stockish block) I would put on gate on each side of the merge...see technical drawing 1 or if room is an issue, see tech 2.

Technical drawing 3 would work if you have a large turbo and a large gate (either to control it to low boost, or a high boost setup)

What gate/turbo/motor are you using?

You shouldnt have the wastegate off to one side like that, it will lead to boost creep.

Try doing something like this.
Kind of crapy design, but it only took a few.

Hope that helps!

it always best to NOT put the wastegate at a 90 degree angle from the pipe its attatching to.

Yeah, if possible you want to place it so the exhaust flows freely right into the pipe against the bottom of the valve.

Ya i know that is normally the way to place it but i thought it might work also if i mounted it on one pipe but low enough on the merge like this picture.

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=7205418

It seems like it would be low enough to manage both sides.

Isnt that still 90 degrees. If some one tells me where to put the WG on that drawing i will draw it up again.

There, no longer at 90 degrees, but there is a lot more work involved, but it would look sweet if its done right!

No that will work fine. Here's mine, I don't anticipate any problems at all:

Wastegate placement on high boost cars (Like parish's truck) is not nearly as important as it is on a stock motored car that needs a low boost with good control.

The Tial 44mm is a great gate and can flow enough, even in a bad location, to be ok. I would put wastegate placement at the top of my list of priorities.

Yes, centered in the merge at a 90 will be fine.
