Default Weird Sound

When I get into boost on my STS car, after I let off I hear a weird "whoo whoo whoo", which seems to be soming directly from the turbo. at first it sounded just like compressor surge, but that would happen during shifts when the blowoff valve is at work, would it not?

I would appreciate any thoughts as to what this sound may be. To me it just sounds like the actual turbine blade slowing down.

That's what it is.

Guess there aren't any worries, then?

Thanks!

That is backpressure on the turbine which is bad. You need to adjust your blowoff valve to eliminate the surge.

How do I "adjust" the blowoff valve? Would this backpressure cause spooling issues or anything of the like? I'd like to get this taken care of, so any advice is well taken!

Which BOV are you using? Typically there's an adjustment screw. Right now, yours isn't letting your valve open and you're backing pressure up on the turbo when your throttle closes.

Lefty-loosey is my first guess, but without knowing where you're at in the adjustment range I can't say for sure.

A little trial and error here won't hurt. Why not count how many revolutions it take to tighten it completely, then how many to loosen all the way. Now you know how far into the travel range you were. I will guess that you've got plenty of room to loosen from your initial setting... loosen a bit, drive into the boost and lift quickly... and continue until your compressor surge is gone. I hope.

OK, I assumed it was adjustable (I don't use a TiAL), but it looks like there's no adjustment on these units; instead, you've gotta take it apart and install a different spring.
