I think the statement should be more like "make sure you tune is ready for boost".

That picture contains a whole lotta hurt.

the bottom end was rebuilt to stock by a machine shop near me and it had about 6,000 miles on it. It had afr heads, a comp cam .581/.588 224/230 114, headers and the sts single t67 kit. Before the turbo it made 410 whp with a crappy tune. It made one dyno pull and on the second pull it left the carnage you see. It spiked 8psi on the dyno and the meth kit wasnt hooked up.

a/f might have been rich, but I bet the timing was way too high.

Bam! I was on the fence about boosting my h/c stk LS1 with the same pieces you have and about 7-8 psi. I know some can go for quite awhile like this, but the reality is you are using a fragile hypereutectic piston that will not tolerate any severe detonation. This failure could have been caused from alot of different cylinder specific stuff ie, lean injector, carbon hot spot, oil in hole, plug, etc, etc not really even an overload problem.

I have one question, did the head get hurt also. My guess would be it will need some welding?

Bummer dude.

Been there done that. I lost the seventh cylinder on my car. The engine only had 10,000 miles on it. Then 8,000 with the boost on it. Then sputter, pop and away she went never to see boost again. Unfortunately you need to have a built engine when using boost. Some guys get lucky and run it with no problems for two years. It is only a matter of time for them though. I just don't have enough money to blow on my car to get it done the way I want it. Oh well there may be another day I will see FI, but not on this car and not on a stock engine thats for sure.

But what exactly happened?! what caused such damage? Ive seen guys run 8lbs-10lbs on a stock block for months/years and they seem to be fine. I guess their lucky then. Seems like their was too much pressure in the cylinder walls.

A good tuner on the dyno would not have allowed this to happen. To much timing or something should have told the tuner to shut down.
