Default Frustrated

Oil is practically pouring out of my downpipe and it's getting on my nerves. The car is never driven, and was sitting for almost a year for the engine swap... Are the seals shot in this thing? It's a master power t70. It's coming out of the turbine side BAD, but not so much up the cold side. I'm running a restrictor, think it's .050"... would should it be? This is frustrating, I'm trying to sell the car, and oil draining out of the downpipe with the car sitting is embarassing and leaving oil stains all over my garage/driveway. A little help friends?

has it always smoked when running? or has oil only been a problem after sitting. If the latter then the seals are shot.

You're telling me man. Wife is literally gonna divorce me if I don't get rid of this car soon. Had a buyer, but backed out. Wish someone would take this off my hands. I'd even cut a deal to the person who would want to deal with this new problem just to get it out of my garage.

It didn't do it like this until recently after sitting. The stock ls1 that was in it, it would sometimes smoke for a quick second on startup when some oil had pooled, but it would burn off and wouldn't leak everywhere. Now it's like i'm dumping oil in the downpipe and pissing me off. I guess I'll be forced to pull the turbo and have it looked at... GRRRR >=(

markp03, you're right, but they take forever too, I don't have forever, I'm trying to sell the car.

Nz - You're right man, all the stupid thing needs is seals. Think we should make a project out of it!

there are no seals in a turbo, just a metal ring, more than likely you have too much oil going to the turbo, probably need a smaller restrictor

Thanks for the response shawn. Then what "seals" are people referring to? I looked at an exploded view of one, and it didn't look like there were a set of "seals" but not sure why all of the sudden. It could honestly be because I was revving it up in the driveway after it was warm and it would see more oil pressure at the restrictor. Currently .050, what SHOULD it be?

the ring that seals the turbo is a metal ring similar to a piston ring,it goes on an enlarged part of the shaft right behind the turbine wheel,it sits in the bore of the turbo bearing housing-the bore in the housing would have to be worn for it to leak due to wear.not sure what seals people are refering to.the size of the restrictor depends on how much pressure your engine is make plus how big the passages are in the turbo itself-i always put a gauge in line of the turbo after the restrictor to check and set pressure-generally 15 psi at hot idle and 40 psi max, turbos dont need much oil to lube them.

Great info, I'll have to check that out. The turbo hasn't had much time on it, but it did sit for over a year... if they're like piston rings, sitting like that wouldn't affect it, since it was in a garage not in the weather.

is it just in the exhaust, or is it in the intake as well? i'd say check your oil check valve and make sure it hasnt gone bad....if the car sat for awhile and you have a bad check valve, oil must have pooled up in your turbo. i had this happen to me, and it turned out to be the damn check valve

I remember you had been saying that. I don't even have a check valve, that's why in the listing on autotrader/craigslist, it mentions the car needs check valves on the inlet/outlet to prevent pooling. It's just a ton of freakin oil. Just need someone to come get this out of my garage to be honest. I don't have enough time to work on it these days.

wrong, turbo's need at least 1/2 gallon a minute for proper lubin or a larger turbo, that is a lot of oil. If you didn't change the 50 thou it shouldn't be over oiling, it wasn't before right??? if anything it's underoiling. Should be up around 75-80 thousand for that size. now for the sludge factor. Did you change the angle of the return line in anyway? And is it at least a 10an return line 1/2" minimum? What weight oil are you running? Are you sure the pump is pumping??? If all that is correct then we will look at the turbo..K?
