Air filters on T88 turbos?
All the T88 setups I've ever seen don't have a filter on them. Some of these setups were on "street" cars. How in the world does the turbo stay together with all the crap this is bound to get sucked up?
Do big turbos like that even have like a flange on the intake side to clamp a filter setup on?
I did see one with a wire screen on it but, that ain't going to keep out stuff big enough to tear something up.
I'm sure you'd have to have a large filter setup to feed a big turbo like that.
Anyone running one with a air filter on it?
Just curious.

Hahaha...It would definately be a "while" if I did something crazy like a single turbo.
I didn't get a chance to talk to that guy today.

You can get Giant air filters for them if you like, but most guys just run a screen to keep out the big stuff (like birds and small dogs).

You can get big filters and some have flanges for them but on every large frame turbo i have seen (in person) they have put screens on and left it at that.
Freind of mine with a 105mm setup sucked up a mcdonalds bag :O and was about to go in his impeller good thing he had the screen :S
You can see that the leading edge is rolled over for sucking air in more effeciantly.
I don't drive on the street much so its not a concern for me personally but I would rig something up if i were going to street drive more often.

I am running the screens as well as the airfoil like mentioned above on my single turbo set up which resides in the fog light hole on my formula. HKS makes a foam filter in the larger sizes. Its very popular with the Supra crowd as well as some of the DSM guys. I have thought about trying that out on mine as well. They are a bit pricey though. You might want to look into that?

Re: Air filters on T88 turbos?
Ive never had a screen on mine and Ive made many dyno pulls and many passes, albeit not GREAT ones, down the track and no problems so far.
Rob Raymer said I had all kinds of luck though as he has trashed a few turbos by sucking in debris.
I plan on getting a screen on it however, im not quite sure how Im going to attach it since the inlet is all smooth on it.
*shrug*

Guido....you have to get large pieces of the screen and fold it over the leading edges of the intake part of the turbo and then just use a hose clamp
