Is there any reason NOT to go with an STS kit?
I would absolutely LOVE an LS1 Maggie kit but they're 6500 and the procharger kinda scares me because i have heard of belt slippage issues. So that bring's us to the STS.. Standard kit is 3599 on new era and it looks like a hell of a deal. Ofcourse i don't think they come with a FMIC so add on another 500 for a intercooler and piping along with a better fuel pump/injectors and we're around 4500 dollars.
Now STS owners. Is the kit worth it? Driving impressions? Anything i should know about it? Thanks

This is a loaded question and really just depends on your desired power level and goals for the car. A better explanation of what you are looking for and some searching could help. Procharger belt slip is not so much an issue @ lower boost levels.

STS kits are very fun to drive. Short and sweet of it though, from what I've seen, manual LS1 have some serious turbo lag issues. Automatics however, do not experience NEAR as much lag, therefore, autos tend to be a better choice for an STS application. Alot of people like to bash STS kits because its a new development and alot of the bashing comes from the manual guys and they b*tch about turbo lag. Me and a few of my good friends all have STS on our vehicles and there are no problems whatsoever and they are all DD's.

the procharger would be the better route to go. im sure bob from EPP will chime in here soon with the pros of a procharger. they are definitely a proven set up with few issues that make big power. ive neer been a fan of rear mount setups.

Thanks for the QUICK response guys. I currently have edelbrock shorties and a Bassani O/R Y on the car. Can i still keep them on the car if i order the STS kit? I imagine they would help with spool.

You have pretty much sold me on it. When does the turbo spool for you?

hopefully Ill be getting my car back in the next week or so, so if you want your welcome to swing by and I can take you for a ride so you can see how a turbo ls1 feels.
Granted it wont be the same thing since the power level will be about 300rwhp more then what your looking at but you'll get the basic idea

What i don't like about eh STS kits is that, yes, their initial cost is great, but your going to spend some more in making the kit actually WORK. Thus, you might as well save a bit more and get a decent setup.
A procharger will be great and you'll make more than 450rwhp! A single front mount turbo, is another way to get there and if wanted to ONLY get a STREEETABLE 600rwhp, get a procharger... its more predictable power characteristic.

i own a STS kit i love the pull of the turbo at full boost and the car is a daily driver. your exhaust set up will work fine with the kit i have stock manifolds with the bassani ory and it works great. change is not accepted by everyone and several people , some have chimed in, dont like the rear mount set up, why??? they cant even explain why they just dont like it. it has proven itself over the last 5 years it is capable of running very good times and power. see Zombie and Longrange4u as examples. Major Spray is in the 7s with a rear mount vette, so the potential is there. good luck
ps get with TRT they have STS kits with intercoolers and everything you will need in a kit form.
