Lol, kind of far for you guys, I'm in IL. I'm going to get **** drunk though when it finally starts, even if it's just me and the woman. I think she might be even happier than me, she'll finally get a little attention

I made some good progress today. I got half the pistons done. It was way easier to fix them than I thought. I just went to home depot and picked up a dremil. The nicks where not deep at all, I just sanded them smooth and then polished them up a little. I took some before and after shots, I'm too tired to upload them now though but I'll post them up when I get a chance. I think they will be fine.

Getting close....don't get too anxious though. Take your time so you don't miss anything while putting it back together.

Yeah, taking my time is key. It's just so hard after all this. I thought I was going to be racing by this time. It helps that I'm too late for this season anyway so I have all winter to get it done right.

I figured that is how you were feeling. If I was in your position...I'd be in the garage until 4 am every night burning the midnight oil to try and finish. I've learned its best to take a little bit at a time. Just hang in there.

I've been busy working The pistons are finished and I got one of the heads installed yesterday. Little by little it's getting closer to start up. I'll try and post the pics of how the pistons turned out tonight. Not really much to see though, it just looks like little flat/smooth spots where the nicks used to be.

It all makes sence now that the chain was off that much, valves hit pistons, valve reliefs not where the valves hit, 0 compression when cranking, then leaky bent valves from hitting the pistons. I bet it would have started right up if the cam was in right, stupid timing gear I think I took a pic of the gear too, just to show you guys how the 8 looks like a 0, man that pisses me off

That sucks man. Glad you got it figured out. I can't get the intake to seal on my 406 for months now. I know how bad it is to get it all together and it not be right.

You will be driving it in no time.

Here is the before and after of the pistons:

They're not perfect anymore which sucks but I don't think it's going to hurt performance so who cares I guess.

Here's the fixed alignment on the cam gear:

Doesn't look perfect but I couldn't get it to turn just slight enough for them to line up perfect but I'm sure it's on there the closest it can be.

The dots look good as long as the slack is on the driver's side of the chain.

I think you got it reversed, crank turns clockwise causing the slack to be on the passanger side? Either way, it's right, one tooth over either way and it was noticably off.

Just got one question now... why would you even buy an adjustable timing chain in the first place if you were intending to install it straight up anyways? Glad to see its at least coming back together now

Most double roller timing chains have dots on them to advance/retard timing.

Exactly. Although mine is not double, it's a single cam motion ls2 chain to fit with my larger melling oil pump. I don't even know if there is an aftermarket chain that comes without the ability to advance or retard the cam, it's pretty standard, single or double. I bought the chain I bought for added strength, that's the only reason. Otherwise I would have just used a stock ls2 chain.
