Should I have keyed the crank? I did not read up on keying the crank prior to my engine rebuild. The machine shop did not mention anything about it either. Its only now that I'm finding out that perhaps I should have had this done.
My questions are:
Is it too late to key the crank? (The motor and blower are already back in the car).
Can this be done without removing and pulling apart the motor again (i.e. another $1500+ labor
)
What is the worst thing that could happen if I don't get this done?
Am I making enough power where this would make a difference?

Re: Should I have keyed the crank? I pinned mine with the motor in my truck.I used a kit I got from Magnacharger,it consisted of a drill guide,a hardened drill,a reamer and 2 hardened dowel pins.It's the same setup Magnacharger uses with their C5 kit.
Re: Should I have keyed the crank? I have the ATI crank pinning kit. It can't be more than a couple dollars for it. Its only a guide, pin, and a bolt to hold the guide in place.
The crank can be pinned with the engine in the car. All you do is remove the crank bolt and install the guide with supplied bolt on to the crank pulley, drill, pin and then install a new crank bolt.
On a C5 we have to move the rack to access the crank bolt, but on the f-bodys, I think you have access without having to move anything.
It should cost you maybe $25 if you do it yourself... but I'm not positive of the price of the kit as it was included in my total package.

Re: Should I have keyed the crank? I have the kit I used on my magnacharger if you want to borrow it .You will need to order the hardened pins for it .Shoot me an e-mail tlauriano@surewest.net
