Default Why truck manifolds with EGR ports should be avoided?

As title says. Why are they worse than non-EGR manifolds?

Hennytime, is that all? chances are not big anyway, imho
redrumss, don't know yet, manifolds with EGR are plentiful and cheaper, so I'm trying to understand what's wrong about them

don't know, $40+shipping? Although if I find they are worse than non-EGR, I might not need them at all
Hope this thread will help me decide

I haven't had a hard time finding non egr manifolds for less than 50 bucks shipped, just got to keep your eyes peeled....the deals aren't hard to find either.

Like henny said, one less place to leak, if I found a set with EGR i'd snap em up anyway. Not to hard to make some good block off plates for em. Or you could tap the hole and cap screw it....but then thats some work and i'd rather be welding up a crossover then making block off plates or modifying the manifolds so I just buy the non egr ones.

As where do I find em, ebay, here or on performance trucks at the top of this page
The truck guys get rid of em for cheap....which leads me to another point....you guys stop driving the price up on these things by paying over 50 bucks for em

I'm hoarding them just in case of a rainy day

so only downside is that it must be blocked? no big deal. It even might be useful for reading backpressure for example?
Doesn't this port impede flow? can't really see it from the pics I found

I'd say the only downside is having the potential to leak. That and they can get in the way when working in the engine bay.

if egr is on front of manifold... Then when you flip them so they face forward that would put egr near back of engine. Sounds like a pain to get back there, and the potential leak. I have not even seen any with egr may not be a big deal.

I know 100% for sure you can find them for under 30 bucks each all day long at junk yards. I bought ones that were pretty much brand new, no rust which is amazing for cast iron, which made the ceramic coating a little easier, less prep.

Find junk yards online that specialize in chevy/truck parts and they will have a bunch.

Sideways240sx: thanx, I think I'll just drill near the flange if I need port for EGT or manifold pressure

What flanges do I need for truck manifold setup? Are they 2.5" 3-bolt?
