Default Quick ?'s about LS1's and F/I

I'm in the middle of a discussion on another forum, and need some help. I've read somewhere that LS1's and a decent amount of boost just don't mix very well unless a lot is changed... Can anyone help me out a bit? I'm having a heck of a time, and if I'm wrong, then just tell me, but would turboing a stock block/internals ls1 past 10 or so psi cause problems because of the aluminum block? Thanks

Nothing wrong with boosting a LS1 if its built right. Basically the stock bottom end (Rods/Pistons/Rings) is only good to 500-550rwhp. Anything past that and you'll need a forged bottom end (internals) to be safe. Things like trans and rear end will obviously need to be built with more power regardless of how that power is made.

Hmm...for some reason I was sure that the LS1's internal's hated F/I, which I was wrong...500hp isn't too shabby. Around how much psi would that take to be "too much". And yes, I realize that the rest of the drivetrain would need upgraded, I was mainly concerned with the motor.

8lbs of boost seems to be the limit for stock, after that your pushing it... At least from what I've seen. You should do a search, this topic has been covered quite a few times.

6 psi on a gt4276 and im close to 500 rwhp, and 500rwtq...

I made 467, but had really bad valve float. Now thats fixed. Once rear end and gear is in i will go back for more boost and tunning.

Lsx love turbo's.

Sorry for not searching...but I went to the turbo FAQ, and looked over the page quickly, and thought I might get an answer easier by starting a new thread. I know what it's like having new guy coming in and wasting space, but I needed an answer, sorry for the trouble. And damn...I won't lie to you guys, IF I had the option, I'd go LS1 any day with the way that these beasts put down power.

Also to answer your other question, the aluminum block is not the weak point by far either. Many have put down 1000+ rwhp with aluminum blocks (and forged internals of coarse). The weak link in the stock engine is the crap pistons.

Mine lasted long enough to destroy people on the streets for a few months and run a dozen or so low 10 second passes with an untouched bottom end. Of corse the end result was my sig pic but it was great while it lasted. It put down 680 rwhp at 14psi.
