Default What should I do about the Oil Return?

I keep hearing different views on having it to the side of the oil pan or in front of the cover such as this.

If I drill it towards the back like this, and run 2-3 gallons of oil through it, do you think i should be ok? I Really dont want to drop the K member, but I will if I have to. I keep hearing people say, do it, you will be fine, but im a little scared.

Need your honest opinions since if I am able to drill and tap it without dropping the kmember, the car should be done tomorrow. =/

either way will work depending on how high the turbo is for gravity drain,my return will be on the frount cover since its already off for cam swap and i dont wanna drop kmember. if ur turbo is low then the pan is the best for you or ur gonna need a pump

wow...bud i dunno..

what size line is that -8

i cant see why it wouldent work?

im a big fan of getting the biggest line i can to drain the oil..

i have a -10 going to the pan....

its not hard to drop the k member...

support the motor...remover engine bolts..remove steering shaft bolt
s remove two bottom shock mount bolts

drop the 6 bolts that holds the k member up let hang remove oil pan bolts...

drop pan down push k member forward and will give you enough clearance to slide the pan out..

Anyone with the PTK, please post a pic of your oil return setup.

Did you run the line to the driver or passenger side.

Also can you post a pic of the fittings that you used right out of the turbo oil return.

I just realized you can see my return fitting in the front of the pan in the background of this pic.

This was the A&A Corvette motor that ate itself up.

The longblock I got from a user here (fash00) had a drain fitting in the front part of the passenger side oil pan. I had to add a little line, but that was it. If my fitting in my turbo was ANY lower, I'd likely have to run a pump like bboyferal ended up with. I run a restrictor with my turbo too.

Thanks for that pic frost.

Is it in the front pan or Lower timing cover?

true...

i had the an fitting welded into the pan...so i just took it off

im just **** i guess i wanted to make sure there was no metal in the pan..

you can also ive seen people coat the drill bit with grease that will make the metal shaving stick to it..

Nice pic frost

Now i need to find a local shop that sells those fittings. I dont want to wait for summit to ship them lol.

Sinister, I have heard that from a lot of people. Im sure the greese will help alot. Then im going to run a few gallons of oil through it. Should be good to go.

having the drain inline with a main cap is a good idea it cuts down on windage.

hmmmm..... I am worried that the 90 degree elbow and the horizontal like path may possibly not work so well. What is the inner dia. of the feed line? If its -4 or bigger I think you will have a problem. Hell try it! If it don't work you'll know it real quick lol.

Im going to clock the turbo a bit so there is more of a downhill slope to the hose.

The 90 degree elbow is actually bigger on the inside then the actual -10 line. Its made for hydrualic pumps, so its very strong =).

If you don't drop the pan you're asking for trouble. Why would you want to risk it? I swapped my K member to a tubular in about 4 hours with hand tools and a floor jack. Just dropping it to pull the pan would take maybe an hour.

Putting grease on a drill bit doesn't do ****, putting grease on a tap helps alot, but I still wouldn't risk it.

shavings end up underneath that windage pan on the inside. i dropped my pan about 4 times (each cuss i had messed up the previous time lol) but was glad i dropped it each time becuase when drilling it you really see how much those shaving get lodged under there
