Default Where to get budget twins?

Im looking for a set of twins for a 5.3L. This is just another project im building with some spare parts, want to keep the costs down. Anyone know where to get some smaller turbos? Not sure what size, im just starting to look into this. Max hp should be about 700hp. Something fast spooling and more for a driver.
Thanks.

..Also,.. internal gates would probably be cheaper and prefered if they will work ok?? Would it be cheaper? any disadvantage?

twins and budget are pretty tough to put in the same sentence, in any subject that you may be talking about.

me and a friend used some toyota ct26 turbos on a 302 mustang back in the day, with 30lb. injectors and vortech fmu, if anything i would say the motor
made around 450-475bhp, i would say now, it felt like a bolt on, cam ls1
they are supposed to be rated a 400bhp. come with internal wg/actuator

You should be able to buy some 20g's for a fairly good price. I ran a re-wheeled 20G in my Syclone for a while & it surprised a LOT of unsuspecting people.

They come internally gated or at least my 16G & 20G did, but you can always weld up the puck hole.

Check some DSM forums or DSMTrader.com

Good luck finding them cheap. New they can be had for about 1000.00 and used about 5-600.00.

How about some 86-87 Buick Grand National Turbos. I bought two good used turbos for $330 shipped. That's what I'm using.

That would be cool, even 500-600 for a pair would be good. Any specs on what those are? I wonder if around 100 cubes more 2 of them would spool fast enough and down low?

Yea, I could go with a decent single for that price. thats way to much for 1 turbo for doing budget twins.

I don't have all the specs on them. I know they're T3 turbos and can support around 350hp each. You can find out the specifics on them here.

You know another option is the Ford 2.3L turbos found in the Thunderbirds. I know of several guys up north running these turbos on stock 5.0's and 351's in 87-89 Mustangs and are putting out some pretty impresive ET's for DIY builds. How about an 87 Mustang with a good turbo cam, ported stock heads and dish pistons with a stock bottom end at 14 psi running 10.40's AND 110mph in the 1/8th mile! I was pretty impressed myself especially when you look at the car!

I still say go with the 86-87 GN's. I don't think you can go wrong. Let us know what you decide.

Chris

Hmm, what power level are stock GN turbos capable of supporting on their own?
This may be the way to go for now. Anyone know what they use for flanges?

Hey Marty, it was good bumping into you at RSD. Any progress on this? What do you consider budget? I'm wondering what would be a good budget single for a cammed 5.3, maybe a 67mm? Hmmm.

Yea, it was good talkin to ya.
We had to put new bearings in the 5.3, got a little delayed on that. Its all wrapped up and I got the the header flanges bolted on. Its ready to get bolted to the tranny and put in the car for fitting. Im going to start looking around for turbos, maybe something off an import?? Theres a big car show and swap meet in Elkhorn Wi. this weekend. Budget wise, hopefully I can find 2 for around $500-600. Id like to run external gates, and with those and the turbos i'd like to keep it under $1k. Ive read a few 5.3s running the MP70mm and those seem to be cheap and working fine. a 67mm would probably be perfect for a mild daily driver.
