Default Extremely Bad Night

Well I bought some used d10s and new m/t drs and drove to the local 1/8m track (about 45 mins). Well I make only one pass and the clutch was smoked! So I drive to the pits, No problems w/ the car other than the clutch. I decide to not risk another pass due to the fact I had to drive home.(I usually tow).So now I'm a spectator/ Tuner for a buddys T-type. 2hrs later we are all leaving and I go to start my car and....Nothing, I think maybe I left the key on too long so I get a jump and that when my world came crashing down. As soon as I turn the key It turns over and a loud bang. So I call a tow buddy of mine and after 4 hrs I finally get to bed. I start early on Sat to find problem. First thing I find is a broken starter,Not a good sign. So I try to rotate motor w/ a breaker bar on the crank bolt and it turns a different amount each time. Now I'm sick...So we procede to pull plugs and find water/coolant on 7 plugs. Now were thinking maybe a blown H/G or 2? but it was running fine, no idle issues at all. So we start disassembly, After we get the Maggie off we decide to check the intercooler by inserting it into a water tank and put air to the cooler and there we find a leak(Large bubbles).
Apparently it hydrolocked the motor while sitting in the pits.... In the mean time I look at the front wheel (car is on a lift) and notice my d10s are cracked and broken to the point I'm almost glad the motor was locked up because Myself and my 13yo daughter could have been killed on the way home.....I cant take anymore today so we leave.
Now its Monday and we start to pull the motor to asess the damage and we find the worse thing I could think of a Windowed Block.

To recap Through No fault of my own my motor just destroyed itself and my new wheels are trashed (after closer look the wheels are both trashed).

I have talked to Ed at Lms and he is helping me out w/ magnusson to get the I/C warranted, and Steve at SJM will be repairing the wheels.
As for the motor I guess I'm just Screwed.....Maybe I'l take a few months and do a little more to the new motor and get 575/575.

So anyway here are some pics of the carnage.

Let me know what you think of my luck! And if anybody wants to donate to the cause Youll be my new best friend J/k

Doug

BTW ignore the date on the pics I didnt reset the camere when I charged the battery.

If you bent the rims you must have hit something. Any body damage? to make the night even worse

Didnt hit anything You cant see in the pics but there are small hair line cracks all around the d10s and I didnt notice them before I left feedback for the member I bought them from, And I dont beleive he knew either so I an just going to have to pay the 125.00 per wheel plus shipping both ways to have SJM repair them.

I bought the car from badmonkey so I'm not the original purchaser but to be honest this only has 1500 miles on the charger. I do agree, I'm a little pissed I just dont know where to turn. I do think that magnusson should pay for all of the damage but I dont think its going to happen.

Did you read his post? The intercooler leaked coolant down into the engine while it was shut off. The damage was caused when he tried to start the engine. Paying attention to gauges wouldn't have changed anything. This was totally out of his hands and very unfortunate.

Have seen this once before way back in the ole school daze, I was a kid and had a 69 440 magnum charger, cammed, headders ect, ran 12.1 @ 117, very fast for those days, anyway a friend of mine also had a 69 charger but a 383, mine an auto his a 4 speed, Mine built by me, his by a performance shop, any way the grudge match was on, he had driven his maybe 500 miles or so, then one day we were finally going to race, he got in his car turn the key and the engine just blew up!, parts flew out. Never knew what happened because he just shut the hood and never fixed the car. That is the first time I have ever seen a motor blow bad just by starting it so I know that this can happen. The bright side like said, You and your daughter got home safe that is way more important that the car..Good luck to you..

Thanks for the kind words guys, I guess I'll be doing a forged 6.0l now since anything I do will require machine work anyway.

I'm sorry, but they should be responsible for everything. Anything less is unacceptable. Its not like you ran the car lean or did anything that could have caused this damage. I would absolutely expect full compensation and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to sue them if they didn't cover it.

This is one more reason not to do a maggie.

I agree I'm just not sure it will do any good as I'm not the original purchaser but I still havnt given up hope. Ed has been very helpful getting Magnusson to agree to pay for the new I/C. I am still going to pursue this but I'm not real confident I'll get anywhere!

Search my old threads

I snapped my starter clean off the block when I tried to start my car one time. Drove to my GFs apartment in the rain (no serious puddles or anything though, my airfilter was not low either). "Hung out" for an hour or two. Then when I went to start the car it cranked once and made a loud noise. Bent a rod seizing the motor and snapped the starter flange clean off the block. No clue how water got in my engine.

Good luck on the rebuild. Just go bigger/nicer this time!

Now thats some bad luck

Being the second owner and the kit having been ran before, i highly doubt it will be covered. Its nice they are getting you a new intercooler, but nothing is owed as its a used setup. Anything over nothing is alot in a situation like this. Most race parts carry no implied warranty.

The most important part is no one got hurt or killed, cars/parts can be replaced.

I'm sorry but if a manufacturers faulty part destroyed my motor I'd lawyer up and sue. I would win too, that is complete bullshit. As far as it being a race part, seriously, its a maggie. Its not like he's running an F3R and blew it up because of low octane. This is not user error in any sense.

I guess the manufacturer is lucky, he's being easy going about. I'd ******* dig up Johnny Cochran and own that place.

And what does it being used have to do with it? Its been on ONE CAR for 1500 miles. He bought the car used. The fact that the original owner doesn't own the car doesn't matter. If he bought THE BLOWER used I could almost agree, but its been installed on one car (by a dealer I might add) for a very short period.

Jake, if I contracted EPP for a motor build and sold the car a week after you installed and tuned it and it blew up, you'd tell the new owner to pound sand?

Now its just a good excuse to go bigger!
