I have a friend interested in the kit, and the only thing he's concerned about is that he's heard that some folks are burning plug wires?

 

havn't heard of that problem from anyone. Can't see it happening with the cast iron manifolds either.

 

Only thing I've heard problems with is the charge pipes getting crushed by the swaybar.

 

just get granitlle wires with heat pertection. they rate them up to 1200 degrees

for problems the sway bar is one. but its not that bad easy fix
if i had to do it again i would look at OFI

 

There is always the stage 3 Incon kit. As a matter of fact, I have one for sale.

 

At least you got parts, OFI is bending their customers over right now.

I've had no problems with plug wires.

 

I have had 2 sets of wires to get burnt. Working on the 3rd set now

 

Hmm burning wires..I have accell 9000 wires they are hard to burn used them with my long tubes.I am thinking to maybe ceramic coat my aps exhaust manifolds for looks mostly but should keep the heat in better as well. Then wonder if should bother with the heat shields if cermamic coat the manifolds. Anyone else cermamic coat the manifolds?

Seems like problems are mostly solvable. The sway bar hitting maybe fix it with spacers or still thinking maybe cut the pipes and put in silicone couplers at the place it was hitting.

Intake tubes collapsing is another thing but at least they offer the new tubes.I am going to maybe see if can just put in some inner reinforcement possibly flexible muffler pipe or something like that.

Couple guys had bad turbos. At least these mits 20gs are easy to rebuld and usually highly reliable. Used for 100,000 plus miles in many many cars.

Can't see much else for problems. I lost 2000 bucks to GMR speed a year or so ago on their turbo kit.The company shut down and I got nothing. At least APS shipped ahead of schedule and the kit seems very well thought out and pretty high quailty. As said above some things need to be fixed/improved.I plan on getting quality t bolt clamps to replace the worm gear ones and maybe better silicone couplers here and there.

Lots of turbo companies have come and gone and taken f body members money with them..incon,gmr, hi flo? the list goes on. OFI sounds very slow on delivery. I would stick with APS or ATI Procharger or possibly sts they have changed their design recently.
Few other well established companies. The small companies tend to go bye bye suddenly or take forever to deliver.Your choice.

I can't say yet how my aps kit is and was delayed because of my 408 engine.Didn't want to put the system on stock motor. Things are happening now but not sure will get everything in and installed in time for any review this fall. Next spring for sure.
As said I don't expect perfection and hopefully can work any issues. There are several guys on the board that seem to have next to no problems with their APS kits.

Those accell wires might be the answer to wires burning.Ceramic coated exhaust manifolds might be another answer .I will be checking into it we have guy that does it in city fairly near me.

I live in Canda Big Bird if that was to me. Sending mine to top gun coating in Calgary. We have powder coater in my town but no ceramic coater.

 

my manifolds and turbo exhaust housing are both coated

 

So where are the wires burning then. At the boots? You can maybe use factory shields? on the wires themselve..wrap them with heat shield you can get at summit?
Please explain a bit better. Can't see why they would burn at all especially if you have coated your manifolds?

Any pics of burn damage on the wires. Try the accel or the granatellis wires are cheap compared to what our kits cost.

Well other option might be to paint the manifolds with high heat paint but of course ceramic coating would be best.
APS deserves Kudos for shipping their kit out promptly in fact ahead of schedule.I do still wish they would send the upgraded intake tubes out with at least free shipping if not totally free of charge but guess will get some if can't mguyver my current intake tubes.

I would never order from a small turbo shop again. Hope you OFI guys get things worked out.

 

I had heard from one guy he was burning the wires on the boot, I think, it would burn and then split, and then misfire.

Maybe the guys who are not having problems could list what plug wires they run, and what coil setup? Ie. MSD truck wires + Truck coils.

I will be running accell 9000 wires and stock coils. Zero problems with these wires with tts long tubes. Don't expect any.they are protected at the boot and rated for pretty high temps.

 

havent had any issues with burning my wires...that i know of...now i need to check to make sure...lol. i sent my manifolds to Jet-hot and had them coated. im running MSD wires with stock coils as well.

 

I just did a thunder racing coil relocation kit and am running Taylor wires with boot shields. The old ones would get all cracked up at the boot and start to missfire. The new ones seem to be to big for the factory heat shields that go over the wires. If you could get something like this on the boots I think it would solve the problem. My Boots protectors that I have now are turning color but have not started to melt yet
