1998 Trans AM, Auto, LS1, 65000 miles, Stock

do you think this would be an ok first turbo? I am not looking to spend alot of money as i am on a budget. I just bought the car and am all new to the LS1. the car is 100% stock with new ring, pinion, seal in rearend. I am going to use this car as a daily driver during the summer months. SO i want to be able to run pump gas. My problem is that there are to many camaro's and firebirds in my small town and i want to stand out. Especially from that d*mn firehawk! And the bastard with the NOS! Looking for around 400-450hp.

If you dont think a turbo is the best bet what do you think i should do? Im not really looking to tear into the motor but if i can maintain a budget i would consider it.

the turbo is crap so if you buy that kit plan on replacing the turbo and bov and wg. and even the hot parts I hear need a bit of work just to get them to fit and the downtube goes under the k member so is no good fro a daily driver. so basically, if you buy that kit all that your oging to end up using is the headers and some of the hot pipes and intercooler and even those items take some work to make them fit.

The downpipe actually goes above the k-member, but yes, be prepared to spend some money on getting a better turbo. I'm sure you could run it for awhile...but eventually the guts will come out of it.

There is a kit on there that is hot parts only if you do a search.

Ok guys i am on a $1500 limit and am not looking to go to the strip just looking to be the fastest Fbody in my little 10,000 people town. I need sugestions and parts lists and where to get them. I think 400-450hp should do it.

Thanks to everyone for the help!!!!!!!!

1500 is slim, I just spent close to 600 just for a boost controller. If you can do all the fabrication/welding then you MIGHT be able to swing that budget. If not dont go cheap or you'll pay in the long run..........

If you want to do a true budget turbo build, you'll need at least 5K....IMHO.

Ebay Ls1 Turbo kit w/ Turbo etc: $800
Cold side piping: $300
Clamps and couplers: $150
BOV: $150
Fuel system: $250
Tune: $400
Wiring/Gauges:$200
-----------------------
TOTAL = $2250 (a very conservative 2250!!!)

It adds up quick man. Most guys spend $1500 or more on the turbo alone. Trust me...you want to budget a lot more money if you plan on putting a turbo on your car.

If you have such a small town...you'd be better off going a heads/cam route. Wouldn't think in such a small town there would be anything faster than a 400+HP F-body. Of course you know better than we do.

first things first, you need to read this sticky
https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-induction/567592-real-price-forced-induction.html

with your tiny budget it would be best just to get a nitrous setup going. that would meet all your goals of being under 1500 (i know a basic setup is going to be around that and you can continue to spend more but this is a basic setup) also meet your hp goals and your daily goal
