Default Possible problems with fuel.

When I press on the gas the car starts to accelerate, but after a second or two of acceleration it will briefly feel like it decelerates (jerks back) followed by a quick acceleration (jerk forward). It feels like if the car isn't getting enough fuel. It doesnt happen all the time though, some days it runs fine, others it's REALLY bad.

I recently changed the plugs and wires, the fuel filter, and the oil so it should be running awesome right? Wrong!

So I was thinking it was the fuel pump failing, but now I'm wondering if maybe it's the injectors? What do yall think? Thanks!

I would say try and get a scan tool on it and fuel guage to see if its missfiring or loosing fuel pressure... That could narrow it down some!

mine also did that before the fuel pump died. either losing fuel pressure under load or its a missfire

Check all your plugs. Make sure they're getting spark. I had a similar problem. Too much ethanol in my gas fouled my injectors and It ran goofy.

How would I check the plugs and fuel pressure?

And I dont know if its related, but when I try to turn the car on, i usually have to turn the ignition twice. Except when its cold out it will turn on the first time. Would a failing fuel pump also cause this?

Thanks

to check plugs, pull them out and make a visual inspection. u can check fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge at the fitting on the end of the fuel rail

yes a failing pump can cause stuttering. thats how mine acted before the pump suddenly died. a dying pump isnt giving adequate fuel pressure causing a stutter

I replaced my plugs a few weeks back so they should be good. I havent had time to check the pump, maybe this week. Its weird cause if im under 2500rpm the car runs fine (except for a little valve clatter once in a while) but once it reaches 3000rpm its over. The car stutters and as much as i accelerate the car wont move.

Txjeep when is the last time you changed your plugs?

well, my engine was completely rebuilt 15,000 miles ago so they are about 15,000 miles old lol My engine does exactly what you are explaining, runs fine until you give it a little gas, crosses 3k rpm and starts stuttering.

I have no misfire readings at all

It also only does this when in drive(tension on the engine), in neutral I can rev it up to redline with no problem at all. This leads me to believe it might be the crank position sensor.. also maybe the MAF, easy way to test the MAF is to just unplug it and drive it. I need to do more research though!

My fuel filter is also 15,000 miles new, soo that rules that out also

talked to a mechanic, he said that it is very weird. He said it sounds like either a vacuum leak, but also rec. to check the spark plugs

i wouldnt think it would be the crank position sensor if it revs fine in neutral or park. a bad crank position sensor will give more problems than just in drive or load on the engine

Thats funny i noticed today in neutral i can rev it up no problem too, but when its in any gear it stutters. And now its starting to stutter around 2300-2400 rpm.

I really doubt its the plugs cause even before the plug swap it acted the same. I'll try the MAF test in a bit.

I havent actually changed the fuel pump yet though so that might be my problem.

My car did this a while back and it turned out to be a clogged injector. It sounded fine in nuetral but under load it sputtered and vibrated. It usually will throw a code, but you could have one pending that hasn't tripped the light yet. It has to misfire quiet a few times to trip the light. Good luck

how did you clear out the injector? I was seriously thining about getting some seafoam today, this would make sense because the only thing that is not new on the engine are the injectors

olsvado-- I unplugged the MAF on mine, that didnt do anything, like nimss suggested it wouldn't be the crank shaft pos. sensor if it only does it under load, so the same goes for the MAF also.
