Default fuel pump bad ???

2000 trans am,,,,,,, the cars starts,, idles anywhere from 100 to 800 rpm, then eventually stalls. I hooked up a pressure gauge and it was bouncing around between like 15 and 40. I'm thinking the fuel pump. Would this be a good choice......http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Definitely sounds like a bad pump. I went with a Walbro 255, but a lot of people here like the Racetronix kit.

I think you will be more happy with a Racetronix pump, it's a more complete kit and lets you keep your stock venturi function.

You can buy directly from us here :

http://www.racetronix.biz/itemdesc.a...PA-001&eq=&Tp=

Or you can use any dealer that carries Racetronix products.

No...you aren't cutting into the fuel tank, that is still sealed. You're just cutting the body of the car to gain access to the fuel tank.

So unless there is a gaping hole in the top of your gas tank (in which case you wouldn't probably be overcome by fuel vapors before you could start cutting anyway lol) there is no chance of anything blowing up.

Not that I know of. Just use a dremel and take your time.

I Dremel'd mine, and I could see an avalanche of sparks cascading across the top of the gas tank. It was very unnerving. I'm still here, though, and so is the car!

I'm guessing the 98's are different. Mine had 5 or 6 nuts holding that down and it just lifts right up.

Just to be sure before I put the new Racetronix in,,,,,, Are the wires and wiring harness clips really submerged in the gasoline?, or did some sort of surrounding fall into the tank when I removed the factory setup. Also, will I see any difference in performance with the Racetronix pump?? I only ordered the pump,, not the wiring harness that was like 50 bucks. Do I need that?

The hot wire lets the fuel pump operate at it's full potential. You'll be fine with just the pump at your mod level. If you start to get more modified and need more fuel get our hot wire harness and you'll see a very good increase.

Yes the in tank wiring harness is submerged in gasoline. That's why it needs to be made from special wires and connectors.
