Default Best position for adjustable regulator

I talked to a mechanic today who told me they moved the regulator from the end of the fuel rail to the fender well on their race car and picked up 2 psi.He said it was a bad idea to put the regulator on the end of the fuel rail and yet I see a lot of fast cars running them this way.I'm not sure I believe him.Any thoughts?

If installed properly, it makes absolutely no difference if it is on the rail or 2 ft away.

I've not seen such a "phenom". However, I have seen regs screwed directly into the end of a rail, that developed cracks. I don't think hanging the wt of the reg, and hoses on a fitting, is a good idea.

Thanks guys.Hey Geeser.Maybe you and I ran sometime at Bowling Green. The GNs were so simple compared to the C5s.Love them both though.I think if you have a steel bulk head fitting welded to the rail it should hold up.

Mounting the reg to the rail is a neat way to do it, but you should always put some sort of brace to the intake for support.

I'd also be leary of mounting the regulator on the rail itself - they don't weigh much, but couple it with engine vibration and it could eventually cause problems. That's why I mounted mine here:

It ended up working out well for me in my application.

Nah...just a -8AN line for the crossover. The feed still uses the stock hard lines, so that limits me on that one, but the line going into it from the back is a -8, and the line feeding the rails is also -8. I use -6 for the return, which you should be able to easily pick out from the picture.
